Smeggy Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 I'm trying to find some nice feet for my SS. Gold or brass is preferred, also big and chunky, maybe cones depending on design. Any good resources for nice feet.. obvious jokes aside
Smeggy Posted March 12, 2009 Author Report Posted March 12, 2009 Shit, they're nice... and cost more than the SS! I may need to just buy some brass billet rod. Some gorgeous stuff there, thanks!
Grahame Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 I think I read elsewhere about other like minded cheapskate audiophiles re purposing brass plumb weights/bobs for just this task, at a considerable saving. This sort of thing Amazon.com: Stanley 47-969 4-Ounce Brass Plumb Bob: Home Improvement Amazon.com: Stanley 47-973 8-Ounce Brass Plumb Bob: Home Improvement
Smeggy Posted March 12, 2009 Author Report Posted March 12, 2009 Ah perfect, now we're in my territory I was just in amazon looking at brass weights.
manaox2 Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 Get four of those from here for $29.50 after shipping and cut up mouse pads underneath for floor discs as Amazon only has one left in stock under $4.87 before paying the $6.81 shipping. You may want to check out Parts Express too. They Dayton Speaker spike set also that looks professional and has metal floor discs included for $21 then four plumb bobs, but they are just over three ounces as the plumb bobs can be had. They also have Dayton isolation cones for $25.25 (no weight listed). Still have to add in shipping. Parts-Express.com - Search Results Parts-Express.com - Search Results
Dusty Chalk Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 ...cut up mouse pads...First of all -- cool idea, hadn't heard that one before, I might have to try it. Secondly -- is that really enough? Probably for most gear, but for gear that isn't, one might consider embedding a coin between two pieces of cut up mouse pad. Or maybe a coin on the side which receives the pointy part of the brass foot, and mousepadding on the floor or shelf side.
Smeggy Posted March 12, 2009 Author Report Posted March 12, 2009 Cool ideas guys. Those dayton gold spikes look like they'd do the job too. I only need two feet for the front, I'm going to rig a brass adjuster under the heatsink for the rear support. The amp is quite small so the biggest plumb bob I'd need is 4oz otherwise they're like 4" tall. I gotta go look for black plastic cases too as a bottom plate to make everything neat. I'm enjoying this way more than I thought I would

It seems to work for various people I've seen (including Jude).
Smeggy Posted March 12, 2009 Author Report Posted March 12, 2009 I'll just file the points smooth on mine, not like it's gonna weigh much anyway and mine is purely for added sexy.
Augsburger Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 I recommend- The Madisound Speaker Components Store any of these, I think Parts Express sells some of these as well. If you want to get kinky with your SS, then you could try these- Studs And Spikes .com store One of the guys who built a BottleHead amp used the spikes listed here. Good luck.
Pars Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 Star Sound Technologies - Audio Points Did you look at the suggested prices on those? Actually, I think I may have 3 of those around, forget where I got them from. Smeggy: Partsconnexion is having a Bargain Basement sale on odds and ends they have laying around, and they do have some feet that sound like they would be nice. Go here and click on the bargain basement sale thing to grab a pdf of what they have. Some machined aluminum feet (sets of 4 for $2 or $5). Maybe something in there you might like, though they seem to lack the bling factor you seem to be seeking to emulate
Smeggy Posted March 13, 2009 Author Report Posted March 13, 2009 they must color coordinate with the rest of the amp so bling is totally necessary, mandatory in fact. .
jinp6301 Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 You wouldnt kill your only stalker!!! Gold paint + sparkles!!! THEN IT LOOKS BLINGIER!!!
Smeggy Posted March 13, 2009 Author Report Posted March 13, 2009 Yeah, but then I'd need to add gemettes and before you know it, I'm knitting.
luvdunhill Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 Smeggy: Can I take you up on that 6-pin Stax plug? It would be much appreciated!
Smeggy Posted March 13, 2009 Author Report Posted March 13, 2009 sho fing, pm me your addy and I'll pop it in the mail.
swt61 Posted March 14, 2009 Report Posted March 14, 2009 So I ordered 4 of those 4 oz. plumb bobs. We'll see if they can be turned into decent feet.
susnick Posted March 14, 2009 Report Posted March 14, 2009 oregondv.com/spikes.html some of the best pricing ive seen on spikes & seems to be of good quality used them on a pair of Lowther Acousta cabinets i built....
