tkam Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 Does anyone know of any 802.11n extenders/repeaters? Right now my access point is in the HT/Game room which is in the basement and adjacent to the garage. My bedroom is above the garage and coverage is pretty spotty. The problem is the wall between the basement and the garage it's at least a foot thick solid concrete. Apparently the wireless doesn't like going through that. So I'd like to get some sort of 802.11n extender/repeater/bridge that I could put on the first floor which would give a huge boost to the signal I'd get in my bedroom. Quote
grawk Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 airport express will act as an N extender. Quote
Dusty Chalk Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 So far, I've only seen B & G, but I'm sure you can google as well as I can. I'm sure they exist, they're probably just not cheap yet. Quote
morphsci Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 airport express will act as an N extender. Dan always beats me to it. Quote
tkam Posted March 9, 2009 Author Report Posted March 9, 2009 So far everything I've read says that the extend functionality of the express only works with other airports. Still trying to find out if that's the case for sure though. Quote
cetoole Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 It works fine for that Todd, I have one that my sister uses for airtunes. It is set to extend the wireless network in our house, which is based around a Linksys WRT54g-tm running DD-WRT. Quote
tkam Posted March 9, 2009 Author Report Posted March 9, 2009 i'm running dd-wrt on my ap now.... Quote
grawk Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 Then airport will do what you want, fo sho Quote
cetoole Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 Except the DDWRT uses WDS, right? Never got it working with WDS, just have it set up as a straight extender. I can look at my settings again when I get home though, if needed. Quote
n_maher Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 I too am in the market for an extender, just running B/G, is there anything cheaper than the APX? I'd had to pay for the extender than I did for the router. Quote
tkam Posted March 10, 2009 Author Report Posted March 10, 2009 here you go nate: Linksys by Cisco Wireless-G Range Expander WRE54G Quote

I can send it on to you if you want to give it a try. Let me know. Quote
