Smeggy Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 I need to get a better soldering iron than the one I currently have and was wondering if there are any opinions of the Weller WP35. It looks like a decent iron and is in the price range I can afford. A full electronically controlled station is too costly so this looked ideal for me. If you know of a better iron at around the same price (no higher) please advise.
Mister X Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 I would go with one of the Hakko clones before I would buy another Weller product. Example----> Stan Rubinstein Assoc., Inc. > Aoyue Digital Soldering Station 937+
naamanf Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 I had a Xytronics 137ESD that I was very happy with. It was a bit more than the Weller ($70) but it was also a lot better iron. As a bonus it used Hacko tips.
Smeggy Posted March 9, 2009 Author Report Posted March 9, 2009 Thanks guys, that Hakko clone is the perfect price
Smeggy Posted March 9, 2009 Author Report Posted March 9, 2009 Only if it has digital control and a rusty pointy bit.
luvdunhill Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 Thanks Marshall, I ordered one too. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what for sissy "wood burning" projects?
postjack Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 good thread, I'm thinking of investing in an iron myself. I want to try swapping out some resistors on the ol' bugle.
Chekhonte Posted March 10, 2009 Report Posted March 10, 2009 I'm glad that this thread was made too. I've been procrastinating the replacement of my soldering iron for far too long.
swt61 Posted March 10, 2009 Report Posted March 10, 2009 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what for sissy "wood burning" projects? Oh he is sooo pushin' it!
Smeggy Posted March 10, 2009 Author Report Posted March 10, 2009 Oh he is sooo pushin' it! Yeah, I'd scratch him and pull his hair If I were you!
Dusty Chalk Posted March 10, 2009 Report Posted March 10, 2009 I'm glad this thread was made, too. Just because I enjoy when you guys abuse each other. And the shouldering iron.
luvdunhill Posted March 10, 2009 Report Posted March 10, 2009 I'm glad this thread was made, 'cause there isn't one a day over at HF or anything...
Smeggy Posted March 10, 2009 Author Report Posted March 10, 2009 Yeah, but they all suck. Ok, you all suck too but in a different way.
swt61 Posted March 10, 2009 Report Posted March 10, 2009 Yeah, I'd scratch him and pull his hair If I were you! That's enough outa you Smeggy Nine Fingers! I'm glad this thread was made, 'cause there isn't one a day over at HF or anything... Who goes there?
dBel84 Posted March 26, 2009 Report Posted March 26, 2009 Been using one of these for the past 8 odd years ( replaced a simple weller ) and it keeps me happy - DMM as a free gift is cool as it doesn't mind the abuse which my pricier one is too much of a sissy boy for. ..dB
GPH Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 Bummer, I went to use my Hakko 936 today and found out that the ceramic element in the soldering pen (Hakko 907) is broken. Does anyone know if it's possible to replace just that part or do I have to replace the whole pen? And if it's the case, any cheaper alternatives than buying the official Hakko part?
mypasswordis Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 My 936 clone (Aoyue) came with an extra heating element so I'm pretty sure it's replaceable.
Looser101 Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 Here's the manual Looks like it can be replaced. Google for the part number.
