Vintage DAC replacement...Buffalo DAC?

Yes I have, but it turns out that instead of getting the entire module, I was just sent the DAC chip :palm:. I'm not sure it's such a good idea to use the brand new one along with the older one. Anyways, I'm resigned to making a significant loss with the whole thing now.

BTW, it turns out that the D20400A is voltage output:

..so I guess the output is just a line-stage. I guess those Chinese tube DACs are doing something right :P.

Well, SF probably did a better job at the design of it <_<

Anyway, whats wrong with using a brand new DAC with the older one? They probably don't have to be matched (each DAC probably drives a channel on its own). I'm sure your tech could take the old, faulty chip out of its module and solder in the new DAC.

I don't know what made you think they were sending an entire PCB (module?). It was pretty clear to me that they were just sending a single UltraAnalog D20400A module (more like an HDAM than a DAC chip).

As far as trusting anything that is put up on AudioAsylum, do so at your own risk. Personally, I wouldn't. The technical level of many seems to stop at what kind of faceplate to use on their Oyaides... :palm:

Well I asked them if they had any DAC modules and they said they would send me one.

Here's the D20400A datasheet:

My logic is preparing for its judgement now. Why not try to use the new and old chip? Its not like its a vacuum tube that could possibly cause channel mismatching, and I didn't hear of anything else not working for certain yet.

Well I'm going to do this anyways but I'm just disappointed that I wasn't getting something more..

Hello XXII. Did you get your DAC fixed? If not, I am interested in buying your broken DAC if the price is fair. I would also pay for the new DAC-module you already bought, even if I don't need it. I finally need the power supply and the output stage, since I own a complete Digital board in nice condition for the SFD2. Regards from switzerland, Wolfgang Graf.

This is an example of a bad first post. Choose your second wisely. :nate:
