Chrysanthemum Posted June 28, 2006 Report Posted June 28, 2006 The Denon 3910 has been to APL, Hotrod and now ??. What will the resultant sound be like? Hotrod did the dual dack (per channel) mod as well as the power supply mod. APL did the Multi clock mod and poor audio output mod. And ??? is doing the Audio Output mods as well as possibly re-doing the power supply mods. What will it sound like? Who knows. : : :
Chrysanthemum Posted June 28, 2006 Author Report Posted June 28, 2006 After all, It's just burning up money. :'(
Chrysanthemum Posted June 29, 2006 Author Report Posted June 29, 2006 Well the first long distance phone call came and went. We discussed the HotRodAudioMods. Please do not go to H.R.A.M. They do very questionable things. Found some HRAM cold solder joints as well as a good time being had with a careless hand and a Dremel tool. The face of the modded op-amps were ground off as well as the coverings removed from installed cap mods. What was HRAM hideing with that? We could also talk about the criss cross wire patch job on the back of the audio/dack board too, but lets not. It looks like a NEW audio output will be a go. Also even more will be done to the power supply with Blackgates and regulators. I have a "good hand" at work on this one, this time around. He is one of the best in the business.
hirsch Posted June 30, 2006 Report Posted June 30, 2006 If you want a modded Denon, $1600 gets you this: http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?dgtlplay&1156166988. If that's not good enough, spend some cash and get this: http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?dgtltran&1154222146 I love what John Tucker did with the Denon 2900. It's my best player, and easily beats the G08 or Wadia 301 in A/B comparison. This player can made a Wadia sound sluggish However, you really need pinch-waist E180CC/7062's to maximize the sound.
Chrysanthemum Posted July 2, 2006 Author Report Posted July 2, 2006 Yeah! But it's a dam shame money has to get in the way or that would be the way I would go.
