JimP Posted February 24, 2009 Report Posted February 24, 2009 Yeah! I just scored this Omega Super 8 Alnico (formerly SuperHemp, but with new drivers), which is on its way to me (seller's photo). Will be driving with my Almarro A205AmkII and various sources. Have had good experience with Omega Super 5, so I splurged.
JimP Posted February 24, 2009 Author Report Posted February 24, 2009 (not you, AB - the new speakers)
JimP Posted February 24, 2009 Author Report Posted February 24, 2009 current system with Omega Super 5's...waiting for the Super 8 Alnico's...
tyrion Posted February 24, 2009 Report Posted February 24, 2009 Enjoy. I had the SuperHemps. Omega makes some great stuff.
diebenkorn Posted February 24, 2009 Report Posted February 24, 2009 and Louis is a fantastic guy to deal with.
penger Posted February 24, 2009 Report Posted February 24, 2009 Kinda off topic but does a B22 have enough juice to drive Omegas?
n_maher Posted February 24, 2009 Report Posted February 24, 2009 Kinda off topic but does a B22 have enough juice to drive Omegas? It should, yes.
tkam Posted February 24, 2009 Report Posted February 24, 2009 I imagine a B22 would easily drive Omegas I think the most inefficient speaker in the Omega lineup is 93db.
swt61 Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 My Beta22 drove my Omega Grande Six speakers with ease. I use an integrated to drive them now, but only because it was a pain unhooking the speakers to drive headphones.
Icarium Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 Hrmm... how would those work out if I tried to use them as computer speakers on my desk?
penger Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 I think you would need a large desk unless you can put them on some Headroom Stands. But if you do that, they might end up being too tall. Headroom recommends the drivers being at ear-level.
Icarium Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 I have a very very big desk. I currently have my m-audios on stacks of books to get em to ear-level.
JimP Posted February 25, 2009 Author Report Posted February 25, 2009 Hrmm... how would those work out if I tried to use them as computer speakers on my desk? If you're referring to the Super 5s, they are kind of large for bookshelf (15"H x 9"W x 12.5"D) but not outrageous. I had mine custom vented by Omega to the side, allowing me to place closer to backwall. I have used these in desktop configuration, primarily nearfield listening, with excellent results. If you're referring to Super 8s, no way, too big (23" tall x 15" wide x 12.5"D)
swt61 Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 I use my Grande Six on my desk as well. They're excellent nearfield speakers.
shaizada Posted March 17, 2009 Report Posted March 17, 2009 The Beta22 really drives the Omega Superhemps very nicely (96db efficient). Sound was actually very nice. Clear, strong, linear and articulated. But thats also the reason I sold the Beta I just wanted tubes that much more, though I had a newfound respect for solid state done right.
JimP Posted March 17, 2009 Author Report Posted March 17, 2009 Just curious, what tube amp are you using to drive your Superhemps?
JimP Posted March 17, 2009 Author Report Posted March 17, 2009 The SimpleSE would be great What is that?
JimP Posted March 19, 2009 Author Report Posted March 19, 2009 They finally arrived! Temporarily set up with my Leben amp, need to figure out how to lay this out, with the challenge of a 2 yr old in the house. Much bigger than I expected, but they sound wonderful.
tyrion Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 I've always liked Omega speakers. Congrats!
