Spiug31 Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 Apparently, there's going to be a new PS1000. MSRP is $1695. I wonder how much they'll retail for in Europe/UK
riceboy Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 Anyway, I am curious as hell to hear the PS1000 especially with flats I am wondering the same thing. It's nice to see those wooden boxes back for the Grado cans
Salt Peanuts Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 I wonder how much they'll retail for in Europe/UK My guess is probably around ~$3000, considering how much the current lineup costs outside of US.
Torpedo Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 I don't think that much. If the GS1000 are selling for about 1000-1200 euros (975 at an online shop in Spain), I guess the PS1000 will be at 1600-1800 euros, possibly less once the novelty calms down. Are they available for purchase and prompt delivery yet in the US?
Salt Peanuts Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 Ah, I keep thinking the exchange rate for dollar to euro is worse than it actually is. The (supposed) official release date is March 1st. I just checked TTVJ site, but there was no mention of it there yet.
mypasswordis Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 What's with a lot of the newer high end headphones being so... ugly? I'm not just saying the PS/GS1000 and the HD800, but some of the newer Audio Technicas, the JVC wooden headphones look pretty ghastly, and the list probably goes on. Not that it matters when compared to the actual sound, and not like I'm qualified to judge, as an owner of a Float. I wonder how heavy the PS1000 actually is.

Like some people mentioned, the problem with Grado is in the details. On the PS-1000, the plastic rods kills the quality feeling of the whole design IMO. Of course, if it sounds good, nobody will talk about that, but I have to admit I'm a sucker for good-looking audio gear and it's not like Grado aren't capable of producing something beautiful, they're the ones who made the HP1000 series.
grawk Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 That wasn't the same grado, and the hp1000 almost put grado out of business.
postjack Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 If as Zanth says the PS1000 bring the midrange righter and more forward than the GS1000, but still retain the bass quality and treble liquidity, the speed and overall qualities for PRAT that Grado cans have, they
kirkwall Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 With respect to the build quality of this new line, and taking into account the new round rods and suspiciously shiny headbands on the RS series, are they still made in-house at Grado or has construction now moved offshore? k
grawk Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 Do you have some information to justify that speculation, or are you making it up? Grados have always been made in brooklyn, it'd be pretty shocking if that changed.
recstar24 Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 I wonder how much they'll retail for in Europe/UK Help from stateside headfier/caser = $1695:)
carlosgp Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 I guess the PS-1 will hold its value, then Well, crazy as it sounds, I think they will raise its value. Now it's clear that there will not be another PS1, at least not in the next years. John seems to be more interested in the GS1000 school of sound.
Blackmore Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 I think EU price would be +/- EUR 1750, doubt they will sell bunch of them up here in Holland. Actually I am a bit worry about their build quality as well, cos for such metal housing they schould re-design the hold part of the headband to.

My apologies for the unwarranted speculation and didn't mean to start that particular rumour, just wanted to clarify what the concerns about new-model construction might be. sorry and best, k
manaox2 Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 Judging from some pictures, seems I actually have the newer style SR225 with the beveled edge housing. I was hesitating to take it out of the box since it was signed by Joe. Should I do it and post some pictures? BTW, the box it came in is the same old pizza box with no "i" indication.
Cankin Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 Pic please btw, where did you order it?
manaox2 Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 Pic please btw, where did you order it? Bought it yesterday to the meet in Charlotte, Joe Grado donated it.
Mark527 Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 They look nice. The cups are shaped like the MS2i "fatboys" and the cable looks a good bit thicker. Really wish they could have eliminated a couple of unpopular headphones in the lineup like the SR-125i and SR-325is to make a production version of the HF-1. They could even charge up to $350 for it if that's what it would take to cover costs of the wood and I wouldn't mind.
Smeggy Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 Yes, those cups are a nice shape and a big improvement over the standard shape imo. That cable does look a bit more sturdy than the older stuff and hopefully won't kink as easily.
manaox2 Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 The stems seem like they might still kink easily. I am personally glad to hear that its four conductors though, makes for an easier conversion from stock to balanced hopefully.
NotoriousBIG_PJ Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 Bah, and I was thinking of saving up for some hf-1's. Biggie.
Cankin Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 the cable looks as thick as the metal part of the plug
soloz2 Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 Just made me doublecheck the SR225's I received 2 days ago... they shipped from Audio Adviser and are the old style.
