Aimless1
I prefer a balanced connection with the P1 as well and I don't have the HD800.
morphsci
The HD800 seem to benefit from a balanced P1 connection. This might just be new HD800 love though, so I will have to do some more tests. I will be lending my balanced cables to Mike with the Aero DAC, but have already placed an order for another set which I should get soon (I need another set anyway). I prefer a balanced connection with the P1 as well and I don't have the HD800. I thought the P1 was SE?
grawk
The P1 has single ended outputs but balanced and single ended inputs
morphsci
Ah, got it.
spritzer
The P1 is SE only. The RCA inputs go directly to the volume control but the XLR's are fed through some active circuitry. Take a look at the block diaphragm in the manual.
screaming oranges
Managed to convince a head-fier to post internals of the Japan version. Can we get the experts to chime in? spritzer
That one looks like Antonio's unit but I don't think we ever confirmed what the 3 primary wires are. They could be a 0-100-117V taps or one of them could be the ground wire for an internal shield. Only a look under the small PCB and a DCR test of the primaries will tell us what's what... Torpedo
Yep, that one looks like mine. Still using the 230-100V step down with it. Once I looked inside and we determined it couldn't be converted for 230V operation, I placed it in the rack and forgot about measuring those primaries. I agree with Birgir, my guess is they are for 100/117 V operation.
spritzer
Break out that DMM and measure the primary....
Torpedo
No way! Some day I'll be selling it along the rest of the dynamic shit and I want it to be immaculate
spritzer
The Stax mafia approves of this message... Still it would be far easier to sell at 117V...
