luvdunhill Posted February 28, 2009 Author Report Posted February 28, 2009 I would think it would be difficult (or at least not particularly clean) trying to use off-board heatsinks on a sigma22, as the output devices are on both ends of the board. Maybe I'm thinking inside the box too much? just imagine a heat sink as wide or tall as the boards themselves. Have you seen amb's beta24 build?
Pars Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 Maybe I missed it, but looking at his initial build pics on headwize, he used onboard heatsinks on the sigma22s?
guzziguy Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 Maybe I'm thinking inside the box too much? That's OK. The idea is to keep the inside of the box cool.
Torpedo Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 Spanish team is in for 2 S22 kits each, so 6 kits in total. They can be sent to Picaudio since he's building my unit, and he'd send the 2 remaining kits to Hitori. Not sure about the heat sinks, I think having to design the box to provide dissipation for two PS boards can add some complication. Aren't there any on board sinks which could work? OTOH my B22 is using a single S22 to feed 3 signal boards, uses on board heat sinks and not a single problem so far, not myself nor any previous owner that I know. In fact I don't think it even gets worryingly hot. Would driving 2 Dynafet boards be that much more stressing for the S22 than driving 3 B22 boards?
Icarium Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 Nod well have PICAudio make a decision on on board heat sinks. I also need his address... any special LED requests (If none I'll just assume.... blue!) and if you need upgraded Muse caps or not.
grawk Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 The threat of blue leds should get people to decide
DigiPete Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 The threat of blue leds should get people to decide More blue!!!!
morphsci Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 What's wrong with blue? It's the color of my eyes.
Dusty Chalk Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 I bet your eyes don't make people go blind.
hitoridekimasu Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 It seems that we have to make decisions regarding the parts to use in the PS circuits. I prefer Muse caps and big on-board sinks. Blue LEDs are OK for me. Cheers
Icarium Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 Well it's an individual decision and doesn't need to be universal across the group, but I can ask him what are the largest onboard heatsinks he can get his hands on and the cost.. but i still do need to know the address you guys want this mailed to as I cannot get an accurate quote without that information.

Torpedo Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 Would it be possible to add another member to the group build this late? A friend of the Spanish team, also a Headcase member (carlosgp) but as Hitori and Picaudio not very participative, knows about the build and is very interested. He would be in for 4 Dynafet boards with needed transistors and heat sinks, and 2 S22 power supply kits. I don't know if he would build it himself or would get Picaudio to build his too. I think the big heatsinks, Muse caps, and blue leds are OK for me too. Regarding the address, the kits and boards should go to 15007 A Coru
Icarium Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 Well I might as well give him the full address now so after he writes up the quote you pay him and then he gathers and ships. If I start giving him partial address then full address then it only gets confusing for him and given that we are placing the burden of organizing shipping on him... I want to make it as unconfusing as possible so we don't end up with the wrong number of kits going to the wrong people. Yes, please just give me the address in PM. Okay well I have no problem with adding your buddy... it's more dependent on Luvdunhill. We had the numbers locked for transistors but someone backed out at the last possible second so... I think it shouldn't be a problem adding your buddy, but it's luvdunhill's call.
Torpedo Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 That would be great. If Luvdunhill can transfer the cancelled order to Carlos, then he'd be in for 2 additional S22 kits, I suppose with the upgraded Muse caps and big heat sinks too. If he's in, then having carlosgp with Casino access would be good too. You'll receive the PM with Rodrigo's address as soon as I finish this.
Icarium Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 Aight sweet. I'll update the spreadsheet with Carlosgp's name and #s as soon as luvdunhill confirms its kosher. I am locking down my own sigma22 board order myself. I will unbold everyone's name who has not locked in sigma22 orders with me and then bold when I get address/order config details.
Icarium Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 Okay got the okay from luvdunhill on your Carlos buddy. I will update the spreadsheet now. Btw luvdunhill is ready to start taking payment for transistors. One last detail to iron out.. if he needs money for shipping now or later. But it is going to be 60 dollars per board with paypal fees if you choose to pay that way. If you want to pay with money order or check then let me know via pm or here and I will circulate his mailing address to you. I am also checking into bank xfer for Team Spain. The deadline for payment for transistors is going to be 3/8/09 as he will make the order for the tiny heatsinks that night.
Torpedo Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 Cool. If a mod reads this, please give Carlosgp Casino access so he can follow the thread and know about payments and everything. I think for us it'd be better making a single payment by bank transfer, of course all due expenses on our side. This would take less banking fees than ordering four separate transfers and much less than Paypal fees. Sending a check from Spain would be very impractical indeed. However we'll do whatever suits Luvdunhill best. So it's $60/board including Paypal fees but shipping should be added, OK? If we pay by bank transfer I suppose we can subtract 4% since no fees should be charged on his side.
Icarium Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 60 dollars a board + additional paypal fees. If you are using bank xfer then itll be 60 dollars per board + whatever fees might happen due to a wire (Usually something like 10-30 bucks I think).
Torpedo Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 Don't know about US fees, but here placing a transfer to USA in dollars and with no additional expenses for the receiver isn't much more of 2% with a minimum fee of 6 euros or so. Is Carlos in for 2 or for 4 main boards? He wanted 4 but I don't know if all them were available.
Icarium Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 4 boards is available I'm sure its still flexible up until luvdunhill makes the final final order.
Torpedo Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 OK then, Carlos is in for 4 Dynafet boards with transistors, heat sinks, etc. and 2 Sigma 22 kits with Muse caps, big heat sinks and I guess blue leds too. Otherwise he'd better show up and change the color hahaha
PFKMan23 Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 So what's his PP address? And did we ever get a cost for the sigma 22 kits??
luvdunhill Posted March 1, 2009 Author Report Posted March 1, 2009 So what's his PP address? And did we ever get a cost for the sigma 22 kits?? hey, I asked Icarium to only share it in PM, I think he's in the process of sending out PMs. As for the sigma22 kits, I think we're +- a few dollars, but I'll let Dan answer that. If there is doubt, just pay the higher price that includes the board mount heat sinks.
