Pars Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 This is a screenshot of the duals portion of the board. Reorienting them into back to back (quad?) would not be easy... Just to contrast, this is the group buy Dynalo board that does allow zip sockets (U1-U4). Pads are still too small in general however.
n_maher Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 FWIW I might be in for a couple of chassis and some other bits to use on a different project in addition to stuffing 4 boards for someone else.
luvdunhill Posted February 5, 2009 Author Report Posted February 5, 2009 Pads are still too small in general however. same ring gauge as AMB uses I believe
n_maher Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 same ring gauge as AMB uses I believe And the beta boards can be a bitch in that regard too.
luvdunhill Posted February 5, 2009 Author Report Posted February 5, 2009 After thinking much about it, I propose that the "cost" for stuffing 2 boards should be 1 stuffed board in return. In Nate's case, I'm not sure what exactly will happen, but I think we should just force him to take the two stuffed boards and he can do with them as he sees fit. This will be more meaningful after a final cost is worked up, but I'd like this to the starting point.
Pars Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 same ring gauge as AMB uses I believe I don't really care who uses it... the point is they are too small and there is no valid reason for doing them this way, other than the default libraries of whatever layout package being used have them this way I'd volunteer to do the layout but I only have the free copy of Eagle and it won't do a large enough board for this.

You mean like if someone stuffs 2 boards for say me, I cover the cost of parts which equate to a stuffed board for the stuffer? That works for me
grawk Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 I'd be in for one or two of those disipante cases...

I'm not convinced that when folks see the actual cost that you'll need me to build anything. Ahh, the misconception that DIY is cheap...(not talking about you grawk) I don't really care who uses it... the point is they are too small and there is no valid reason for doing them this way, other than the default libraries of whatever layout package being used have them this way I'd volunteer to do the layout but I only have the free copy of Eagle and it won't do a large enough board for this.I errrmmm, may have access to a copy of Eagle that you could, ermmm, like use and such.
PFKMan23 Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 Depending on how this plays out, I might also be in for a case with panels.
luvdunhill Posted February 5, 2009 Author Report Posted February 5, 2009 I'd volunteer to do the layout but I only have the free copy of Eagle and it won't do a large enough board for this. Break the mold and use diptrace. Everyone's doing it. Sensible defaults to boot!
luvdunhill Posted February 5, 2009 Author Report Posted February 5, 2009 As for other group buys tagged on to this, I'll leave that up to whomever gets assigned that particular piece of the build. Still working out the assignments
n_maher Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 Break the mold and use diptrace. Everyone's doing it. Sensible defaults to boot! Does the Freeware version have a board size limit, or just the 250 pins?
Hopstretch Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 Still working out the assignments You might consider geographic proximity, since these suckers will probably be pretty heavy!
Pars Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 Does the Freeware version have a board size limit, or just the 250 pins? Freeware Eagle will only do a 100x80mm board (~4"x3.2"). I need something that runs on a Mac also, ruling diptrace out (I believe??).
luvdunhill Posted February 5, 2009 Author Report Posted February 5, 2009 Does the Freeware version have a board size limit, or just the 250 pins? just a pin limit.
DigiPete Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 I guess a PSU sub-thread should be considered as well (number of orders/parts/cost, etc.)
Looser101 Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 I guess a PSU sub-thread should be considered as well (number of orders/parts/cost, etc.) How about just getting them from here?
naamanf Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 (edited) How about just getting them from here? For the # we would be buying I think there would be a significant price savings buying the parts direct. Break the mold and use diptrace. Everyone's doing it. Sensible defaults to boot! I concur. If Kevin is willing to share the board files we may be able to import them and save a bit of time making new boards from scratch. Edited February 5, 2009 by naamanf

Still working out the assignments I'm definitely willing to organize and do some of the purchasing/distribution if you need people for that.
DigiPete Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 Which version is under consideration, this one?
kevin gilmore Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 Output export types are bitmap (no holes seem to show thru) metafile (never figured out how to use this) dxf (don't have autocad) eps vector (useless as far as i can tell) overlay (not even sure what this is)
