Dusty Chalk Posted April 23, 2010 Report Posted April 23, 2010 I believe it's pronounced the same as that stuff you breathe.
manaox2 Posted April 23, 2010 Report Posted April 23, 2010 I believe it's pronounced the same as that stuff you breathe. I've been pronouncing it the same as ire in my head.

Asr Posted April 23, 2010 Report Posted April 23, 2010 I've heard Steve Silberman (who works there) say it as "air," so there ya go.
HDen Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 There's a used QB-9 up on audiogon, if anyone is interested...

randerson3024 Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 I just took mine into Norman Audio in Singapore for for the hi rez 192 upgrade. Has anyone else done this? Bob
HDen Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 I just took mine into Norman Audio in Singapore for for the hi rez 192 upgrade. Has anyone else done this? Bob damn, this has an upgrade? Did they tell you parts they change exactly? With your stax headphones, does it sound too analytical/bland compared with your other dacs?
randerson3024 Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 A new chip and firmware I think. It was just offered to me, and is brand new. I would check with your dealer. It will handle 192 such as RR HRX recordings.
rogue Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 Interesting. I wonder if there is any benefit beyond 192 support? If not, I probably won't upgrade for the time being. The 96/192 offerings currently out there are slim, especially in terms of older recordings.
randerson3024 Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 I am also auditioning Crystal and Siltech USB cables that seem promising.
emelius Posted July 27, 2010 Report Posted July 27, 2010 Ayre QB-9 w/ USB Audio v2.0 is here w/ Linux. Update: It WORKS! | Computer Audiophile perhaps germane to what you're discussing...hopefully it won't be long before i can find/afford an updated black qb-9 at a used price...
spritzer Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 Necro bumb. I've been thinking about picking up one of these for a while now but 230V units are pretty thin on the ground. Does anybody know if the transformer has split primaries so I could just modify a 115V unit?
Hopstretch Posted July 24, 2011 Author Report Posted July 24, 2011 Hey Birgir. I emailed Ayre about that when we moved to 230V territory and they told me to forget it. Whether that means it can't be done, or whether they just didn't want me diddling with it, I don't know.
spritzer Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 Most manufacturers would never allow the end user to mess with this but I do wonder if it is possible to do so. The pics I've seen just show two wires going to the IEC socket but they could be hiding two more somewhere.
Torpedo Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 That seems an interesting USB DAC. Keep us posted Birgir.
spritzer Posted July 25, 2011 Report Posted July 25, 2011 Will do. If you see a 230V unit let me know. I'll also have to ask Ayre and see if I can buy one directly from them since there is nobody here who represents them.
Hopstretch Posted July 25, 2011 Author Report Posted July 25, 2011 This is the best shot I've got. And it doesn't help at all. Tell me what you need to see and I'll go find the right Allen key.
spritzer Posted July 25, 2011 Report Posted July 25, 2011 I need to see how many wires enter the transformer on the left side of that picture, between it and the display. A picture of the side of the transformer (which faces the PCB's) would also be nice since that's where the specs are printed. If this is a stock unit then I could just buy another one and swap it out.
