MrSlacker Posted December 25, 2008 Report Posted December 25, 2008 I am looking for reasonable priced tequila. Nothing over around $60 for 750ml. I usually drink Jose Cuervo Especial because it is cheap. My dad got me a bottle of Patron Silver and I really enjoy it. What would be your recommendations for tequila in my price range.?
naamanf Posted December 25, 2008 Report Posted December 25, 2008 Do you plan on drinking it straight or with a mixer? If I am mixing drinks I usually get Sauza or Cazadores. Straight I get Patron Anejo, Don Julio Anejo or Herradura. The Sauza Tres Generations isn't bad either.

Which Sauza in particular?

grawk Posted December 25, 2008 Report Posted December 25, 2008 herradura is good stuff. Whichever sauza is convenient.
Dusty Chalk Posted December 25, 2008 Report Posted December 25, 2008 Funny, I was just thinking about asking a similar question about Tequilas... (reads thread)
grawk Posted December 25, 2008 Report Posted December 25, 2008 any price for any quantity of cuervo is a bad deal.
Voltron Posted December 25, 2008 Report Posted December 25, 2008 I second what Dan says and Patron is a polished turd. Don't bother if you want to drink real tequila. Mexicans drink Don Julio if they can afford it. Enuf sed.

Voltron Posted December 25, 2008 Report Posted December 25, 2008 It's still your birthday, so I will smile and concur. Some really expensive Cuervo does not equal shit juice.

MrSlacker Posted December 25, 2008 Author Report Posted December 25, 2008 Alright sounds like I will pick up a bottle of Don Julio A
grawk Posted December 25, 2008 Report Posted December 25, 2008 as with any good liquor, neat. No lime, no salt, no ice. Sip it, don't slam it.

Voltron Posted December 25, 2008 Report Posted December 25, 2008 The salt and lime are part of a fun ritual, but really should be avoided if possible. I do like a little lime wedge on occasion, but the salt I leave for the rim of a real juice, real booze margarita (rocks, of course).
Dusty Chalk Posted December 25, 2008 Report Posted December 25, 2008 There's a time and place for everything, and the time and place for lime and salt are frat parties and cheap tequila. A good tequila is drinkable neat, as I found out recently, and should be savored.

Blackmore Posted December 26, 2008 Report Posted December 26, 2008 I love all shit called tequila, but must be gold...
catscratch Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 Definitely go for Don Julio, and Anejo is the way to go, though other varieties of Don Julio aren't bad either. The Bianco has a nice mild flavor. My favorite widely-available commercial hard liquor.
Beefy Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 Good Tequila is really hard to get down in Australia, but I recently splashed out and bought a mate a bottle of '1800 Anejo' tequila as a gift. Does anybody know if it is any good?

Does anybody know if it is any good? 1800 isn't bad, but it's not in the same class as the tequilas Dan first suggested.
