ilikebananafudge Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 hey y'all I was just looking around, trying to figure out how loud (objectively) I listen to my music. I saw spl meters, and was wondering if those worked for headphones, like the HD650. If those do work for that application, which meter should I get? I was looking at the Radio Shack brand one, or this one: [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Extech-407730-Decibel-Digital-Sound/dp/B000EWY67W/ref=pd_ecc_rvi_cart_2]Amazon.com: Extech 407730 40 Decibel to 130 Decibel Digital Sound Level Meter: Home Improvement[/ame] Let me know what's what. Thanks Quote

deepak Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 I'm using a Ratshack SPL meter and it works fine for testing how loud I'm listening. Quote

Sherwood Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 For a rough test, the "Decibel" program for the iphone is always within 2 dB of my ratshack dB meter. It costs $1. If you're measuring something professionally it's not worth your time, but it gives a good approximate level and an excellent relative level. If you're just trying to be around 85 dB, this will do the job well on the cheap. Quote
ilikebananafudge Posted December 23, 2008 Author Report Posted December 23, 2008 I don't have an iPhone unfortunately. So it seems that I shouldn't spend more to get the extech one. Thanks for saving me money Quote
