Dusty Chalk Posted December 23, 2008 Author Report Posted December 23, 2008 Yeah, I also tend to be not as sensitive to sibilance as a lot of others are. I find the Sony MDR-7506/-V6 bright, but once I get used to them (e.g. on travel, listening to them exclusively after not having listened to them in a while), I find them quite listenable.
Blackmore Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 My life is an dog's life, so, dogshit is a huge part of it. I unfortunately have yet to find a magazine hi-fi reviewer who knows dogshit about high end headphones. I enjoyed the GS-1000, but anyone who has anything good to say about those highs must be eating dogshit and putting dogshit in their ears, and I've yet to read a review that even comes close to calling them bright.
wrecked_porsche Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 Yeah, I also tend to be not as sensitive to sibilance as a lot of others are. Dusty, have you tried the '05 DT990? ZOMG, those made my my ears bleed. Within the first 5 seconds. They sssliced and diccced my ears. For those of you who are masochistic, try Jesse Cook's or Kylie Minogue's songs on the '05 DT990...
JBLoudG20 Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 I don't know -- I don't see anyone complaining about how good the Audio Technica Japanese imports look. As long as they sound good. That's because the ATOW's drops girl's pants faster than it takes thrice to eat biscuits and gravy.
Augsburger Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 Thanks, that just improved my morning attitude.
Sherwood Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 I unfortunately have yet to find a magazine hi-fi reviewer who knows dogshit about high end headphones. Seriously! It's like all their carefully-cultivated skepticism goes out the window, and they are just flabbergasted by tiny speakers you can wear.

Meh -- don't remember much sibilance, but have to admit to not listening to Ms. Minogue on it (was listening on a friend's system, he's not into Kylie).
Knuckledragger Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 Can I get a Phiaton to match my [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Phaeton]Phaeton[/ame]?
Dusty Chalk Posted December 23, 2008 Author Report Posted December 23, 2008 No, but you can get a Phaeton to match your Phiaton...as long as you get it in red or black (because black matches anything). Unless you mean the black one -- which will match anything, so yes.
bhd812 Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 who cares if its real leather or not, rite on the cups you see the embossed fake gator/croc so that alone should tell you what the rest of the headphone is made of sofar as real luxury. The 50MM driver and titanium advertising is pure SONY style and you all know how i REALLY love the SONY. stil i give them credit for looks and to bring another choice to the game, would love to hear them but i would not be surprised if they are not up to the R10/L3000/hp1 sonics...lol
Dusty Chalk Posted December 23, 2008 Author Report Posted December 23, 2008 lol So, what, you're joking? Seemed like a pretty serious post up until that. Tard.
The Monkey Posted December 24, 2008 Report Posted December 24, 2008 Are the pads really made of dogshit?

Well, Ms. Minogue via an '05 DT990 was an eye opener for me... tftfy Agreed. (Except for a select few of Jesse Cook's songs; please don't make me the 19th person to pay your basement a visit) I use those two artists as a benchmark of sorts. If I can bear the sibilance with those two on board, then its safe to say I can pretty much withstand anything w.r.t sibilance on that particular equipment.

I've been demoing Zanth's pair of GS-1000s for the past week, in comparison against my HD580s. It might be that I've only really ever listened to HD580s for the past 2 years, but I already shudder anytime a female singer has an S to sing.. not a pleasant feeling for me.
Sherwood Posted December 28, 2008 Report Posted December 28, 2008 Writeup of the Phiaton in the new Sterophile. I'll record the salacious bits after my wife and I finish mocking Star Trek 6. Details at 9.

bperboy Posted December 28, 2008 Report Posted December 28, 2008 perfectly illustrated. I've got a big playlist of songs that I want to do detailed comparisons on, but I'm thinking at this point that there really isn't a whole lot to redeem the cans.. we'll see though.
spritzer Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 Some well placed Dynamat should take care of that...
Dreadhead Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 Some well placed Dynamat should take care of that... I thought you guys didn't care about frequency response curves? I did one for an R10 (since deleted sorry) but I didn't post it because people would have gone nuts telling me I did stuff wrong
