Blackmore Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 Have you ever tried one? Looks like siriouse 20kg shit to me, isnt?
Salt Peanuts Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 Oooo, top-loader. Me likely top-loader. I know nothing about the player except that it was Denon's top of the line player in '94 and it cost 500,000 JPY at the time.

Blackmore Posted December 18, 2008 Author Report Posted December 18, 2008 And here is his big brother Denon DP S-1, HOLLY SHMOLLY:o
Knuckledragger Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 Damn, dude. That second one is gorgeous.
Aura Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 Damn, dude. That second one is gorgeous. x2 The aesthetic force is strong with that one...
Duggeh Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 Dare I utter that I think they're both fugly? Particularly the second one.
Blackmore Posted December 19, 2008 Author Report Posted December 19, 2008 Now I see where that alien stuff are comming from And here is his big brother Denon DP S-1, HOLLY SHMOLLY:o
Sherwood Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 I definitely like the first one more. Why did more CD players not have digital in? Surely we are not the only subset of audiophilia that likes DACs, right?
spritzer Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 Dare I utter that I think they're both fugly? Particularly the second one. Compared to the Sony R's they indeed are. Me want a Sony CDP/DAS-R10...
Sherwood Posted December 21, 2008 Report Posted December 21, 2008 More cd players seem to be coming out with digital inputs nowadays, though. A welcome change. I've heard the argument that "they want you to buy the DAC too", but that's silly. The 840c has absolutely exploded on the market, in large part because of the balanced capability and the digital in at a hotly contested price point. You can't tell me that some other companies wouldn't like to make that money, as well (I'm looking at you, Rega.)
Tachikoma Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 It uses 4 x PCM1702 From what I've read about it on diyaudio, the output stage is supposed to be somewhat poorly done and should be modded
grawk Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 The reasoning is probably that it unnecessarily complicates the design for a feature that until recently no one was clambering for.
deepak Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 My favorite looking CDPs: Oracle beastie SimAudio Andromeda
HiWire Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 I like the Simaudio Andromeda the best out of these pics... the SuperNova also looks pretty good.
wrecked_porsche Posted December 24, 2008 Report Posted December 24, 2008 I just happened to come across a Denon DCD-S1 CD player going for slightly under $2k in my country, so if anyone wants this CDP, then do let me know and I'll try to help you out as best as I can.
