Voltron Posted April 20, 2009 Report Posted April 20, 2009 American Analog Set -- Hard To Find: Singles and Unreleased
Voltron Posted April 20, 2009 Report Posted April 20, 2009 Lacuna Coil - Shallow Life Is it as good as Unleashed Memories, or Comalies? No. Does it deserve the venom being spewed upon it by Lacuna Coil "fans"? Not at all. Sure, it's an obvious effort towards mainstream success, but that's not always a bad thing. I gave it a listen and it sounds quite a bit like Karmac Code, the only other disc I have of theirs, but softer at times and more mainstream. Overall sound and feel is awfully similar to me though. Now listening to Unleashed Memories to get some perspective:
en480c4 Posted April 20, 2009 Report Posted April 20, 2009 Older stuff was definitely more interesting to me... More about mood and atmosphere. Comalies was kind of transitional, from their earlier stuff. Karmacode was OK, I guess. I think I like Shallow Life better.
Hopstretch Posted April 20, 2009 Report Posted April 20, 2009 Bob Dylan -- Highway 61 Revisited DCC Gold, in honor of the Esoteric discussion.

I like it all. Although I have to admit that when I get to a favourite track (Falling/Falling Again/Senzafine/&c.), I do get particularly excited.

hungrych Posted April 21, 2009 Report Posted April 21, 2009 Black Sabbath - The Mob Rules Every metal producer should be forced to listen to this, as proof that metal can sound good. There is absolutely no reason for so much of it to sound like shit.
aardvark baguette Posted April 21, 2009 Report Posted April 21, 2009 There is absolutely no reason for so much of it to sound like shit. Sure there is. The 'lowest common denominator'. I hate the integer race.
Hopstretch Posted April 21, 2009 Report Posted April 21, 2009 There is absolutely no reason for so much of it to sound like shit. Other than being metal in the first place? (runs away) Dolores O'Riordan -- Are You Listening?
Voltron Posted April 21, 2009 Report Posted April 21, 2009 Other than being metal in the first place? (runs away) Exactly Duke Ellington -- Such Sweet Thunder

guzziguy Posted April 21, 2009 Report Posted April 21, 2009 From band name, to logo , to cover art, to album title, that is truly abominable. If you can't be good, try to be shocking.
aardvark baguette Posted April 21, 2009 Report Posted April 21, 2009 I've seen and heard far, far worse. Whore and Fornicator come to mind. And the truly awful Intense Hammer Rage. Although they get brownie points for awesome song titles and southpark excerpts. Songs like "My Fist, Her Face, Same Time, Same Place"

Dusty Chalk Posted April 21, 2009 Report Posted April 21, 2009 Yeah, anything truly death metal (Cannibal Corpse, etc.), is usually revolting beyond shock. Your mind just kind of doesn't read it/look at the cover/listen to the lyrics.

Your mind just kind of doesn't read it/look at the cover/listen to the lyrics. Really? I find bands like Cannibal Corpse, and other death metal and grind core bands funny Black Metal is even more hilarious, but mostly boring to listen to.
Dusty Chalk Posted April 21, 2009 Report Posted April 21, 2009 Alright, change my post from "Your mind..." to "My mind..."
aardvark baguette Posted April 21, 2009 Report Posted April 21, 2009 I recognize the atrociousness of it, but there is a certain humor to it all, in my eyes. Its the same type that makes certain people laugh while watching Evil Dead. Further, it ceases to be funny when there is no realization of how wrong it actually is. Once desensitization occurs, it becomes boring.
