faust3d Posted August 3, 2010 Report Posted August 3, 2010 Unknown Deutschland - The Krautrock Archive Volume 1 (1996) I only found one of them so far, need to get my hands on the other two A series of three CD's from Virgin, compiled by Trevor Manwaring (owner of the Paratactile label, who has worked for Impetus, Virgin and Harmonia Mundi) from tapes supplied to him by Toby Robinson, who is well-known to Krautrock collectors as one of a number of engineers working at Dierks Studio in Stommeln, Cologne in the mid-1970's. Much of this was totally unknown to almost everyone upon release, and was treated cautiously by the collectors and media. However, the evidence is that the material is authentic. Some of the tracks are apparently previously unreleased, though the majority (tracks by: Golem, Temple, Cozmic Corridors, Galactic Explorers and The Nazgul) was originally issued on the extremely obscure private independent Pyramid label.
jvlgato Posted August 3, 2010 Report Posted August 3, 2010 I just listened to Boston Boston on vinyl last week. Made me giggle because one of friends got 4 copies of it on his 14th birthday. Now THAT was a popular debut. Great album! Wish I had a copy.
mypasswordis Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 Lykke Li - Youth Novels there is something about the sound of the crickets outside that goes really well with this album. Good pop. David Oistrakh playing both Shostakovich concertos from Russian Historical Archives CD set
Dusty Chalk Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 (edited) Lots more Anathema: We're Here Because We're Here, Hindsight, A Moment in Time, Were You There?, and A Natural Disaster (which is sounding a lot better after the passage of time, and being allowed to digest the radical change from one of the architects of the Gothenburg sound, to a more mainstream prog rock band, to a band that sounds like Radiohead meets David Gilmour era Pink Floyd). Torpedo Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 Just bought this... Gotta love self-release downloads where you can pay what you want (above a minimum of $8 ) for whatever format you want. $10 for lossless sounds damn good to me! Downloading it. I wish more artists followed this business model and offered 16/44 or higher lossless files at a sensible price.
Absorbine_Sr Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 Downloading it. I wish more artists followed this business model and offered 16/44 or higher lossless files at a sensible price. I bought it a couple of weeks ago but have not done a serious listen yet. Maybe tonight.
bhjazz Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 Camel - I Can See Your House From Here Outstanding. Definitely one of my favorites from them. I have two or three copies of it...one on CD and two on vinyl, including an original Deram pressing. Fun stuff.
GPH Posted August 5, 2010 Report Posted August 5, 2010 (edited) Outstanding. Definitely one of my favorites from them. I have two or three copies of it...one on CD and two on vinyl, including an original Deram pressing. Fun stuff. I love Ice, truly classic Camel stuff. Btw, Andy Latimer has apparently recovered from his illness and he's featured on David Minasian's upcoming album. I listened to a few samples on his MySpace page and it sounds very promising.
