Dusty Chalk Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 Schubert/Mahler SACD on MD und G -- hey, did you know that the German word for someone who plays the bassoon is "Fagottist"?
Dusty Chalk Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 Schubert/Mahler SACD on MD und GRelinquished -- I'm really in the mood for some Hiromi, so I'm putting Another Mind on: I never get tired of this story -- to those of you who aren't musicians, this is pretty much The Dream:A chance meeting with Chick Corea when she was 17 led to a performance with the well-known jazz pianist the very next day. “It was in Tokyo,” Hiromi recalls. “He was doing something at Yamaha, and I was visiting Tokyo at the time to take some lessons. I talked to some teachers and said that I really wanted to see him. I sat down with him, and he said ‘Play something.’ So I played something, and then he said, ‘Can you improvise?’ I told him I could, and we did some two-piano improvisations. Then he asked me if I was free the next day. I told him I was, and he said, ‘Well, I have a concert tomorrow. Why don’t you come?’ So I went there, and he called my name at the end of the concert, and we did some improvisations together.”
Torpedo Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 The bassoon in Spanish is "fagot" so I might have expected that
Voltron Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 I have been trying to hold back from using the term "fagottist" in reference to that Olive cover art, but I guess I failed. Anyway, back on topic: Assembly of Dust -- Some Assembly Required
agile_one Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 (edited) yeah, that Olive is a bit swishy, but I'll get over it with Lowell George and Little Feat. Here's a latter day video for the audio challenged. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wt4UqRvUFE]YouTube - dont bogart me~the fraternity of man[/ame] Edited July 22, 2009 by agile_one spellign

Dusty Chalk Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 Hiromi was very satisfying. Back to the Schubert Mahler -- this is the arrangement for string orchestra by Mahler of Death and the Maiden, which is very nice.
