boomana Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 Ray Lamontagne -Till the Sun Turns Black I haven't listened to this in years. At little schmaltzy, but not bad if you're in the mood.
boomana Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros - Up from Below. I have no idea why I keep listening to this over and over. It's has a very musical theater vibe, sort of Hair-ish or a bit of The Tubes. It's pretty much silliness done right. Very addictive. Has anyone else heard it?
Augsburger Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 Blue Note RVG edition, The Amazing Bud Powell Volume Three- Bud! I bought this cd to evaluate and see if the Classic Records 200G mono is worth buying and trying.

Grahame Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 BBC - BBC Radio 2 Programmes - Bob Harris, Judie Tzuke Session Interesting playlist, "Whispering" Bob Harris is still going strong at 64! The interview and live songs in the studio start at about 1:18:20. So Hollywood live in the studio, and other tracks from Moon on A Mirrorball. Insights from someone who's been in the music biz for getting on 30 years, and now her daughter (Bailey) is following in her footsteps. good stuff.
boomana Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 Horse Feathers - House With No Home. One of my new top CDs. It makes me smile whenever it's on, so I've been playing it a lot since I got it. I like it better than Words Are Dead, though that's quite good also.
boomana Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 (edited) Ben Nichols - The Last Pale Light in the West Anyone that likes Steve Earle should check this out. It has that vibe, though it's completely its own thing and quite good. Ben Nichols is Lucero's front guy, and though I'm not really a fan of that band, I like this a lot, and as I think I said in an earlier post, it's based on Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy, kinda a character study, and it works as such. robm321 Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 Guns N' Roses - Chinese Democracy Other than the guitar work, this pretty much sucks.
jinp6301 Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros - Up from Below. ^
mypasswordis Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 Trying to like the Shoenberg concerto on this is like trying to hug a porcupine. I'm not getting it yet, but the Sibelius is awesome! I kind of like it. It takes awhile to embrace atonality. Have you heard the Berg violin concerto? Pretty fantastic.
Duggeh Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 Watching Mahut - Isner at Wimbledon. Insane match. 9 hours.
boomana Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 Jin, what do you think of that cd? It's weird that I don't really like it in a lot of ways, but I'm drawn to it nonetheless. Jim White - No Such Place
jinp6301 Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 Jin, what do you think of that cd? It's weird that I don't really like it in a lot of ways, but I'm drawn to it nonetheless. I like it. Kinda reminds me of the polyphonic spree and arcade fire but somehow doesn't really sound like them either. I defintely heard "home" before somewhere.
Dusty Chalk Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 Just finished Perfume Tree, Feeler; just starting A Lifetime Away -- ugh, there are spots on the CD that are completely see-thru, I hope it plays okay. The music is great, of course.
postjack Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 I thought chinese democracy was awesome. still think its awesome. great music, great sonics, great songwriting. its biggest negative is that is freaking Chinese Democracy and nothing it could have done could live up to the hype. Ferry Corsten - Once Upon A Night nothing but trance for me lately.
Dusty Chalk Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 So switched gears because of Vicki's "me music me for me" thread, never found out if disk was faulty, will find out tomorrow...I think. Stuck on the Devics -- just finished If You Forget Me... -- "Blue Miss Sunday" is a great way to kick off the album, and "Spooky"/"Heaven Please"/"Siren Song" is a great way to near-end it. Now on to My Beautiful Sinking Ship -- what a great fucking album. I may just have to cover "You in the Glass". RIYL Nick Cave...
faust3d Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 The Future Sound of London - Lifeforms (1994) [url=http://rateyourmusic.com/genre/Electronica/]
postjack Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 in 2010, seriously? yeah I know, right? it's just scratching the itch right now.
Dusty Chalk Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 Switched gears again, because I just remembered Ihsahn, and it was really Peccatum, Lost in Reverie that I wanted to hear and recommend.
