Voltron Posted February 24, 2010 Report Share Posted February 24, 2010 and better music. i've listened to a lot of music, but this quartet from 1956... of course, my opinion might be colored by fact that i think Art Tatum was the finest instrumentalist of the 20th century, but i just can't think of a better recording. with just this album, a person who had never listened to music before could understand jazz, could understand an entire idiom, could understand an entire era, could understand the people who made the music, and could understand the people who listened to it. i can't think of any other recording that can do that. while that's a pretty good album, i don't think it can do it. By "it" do you mean all of that above^^ ? No, I don't think it can synthesize and symbolize an idiom, era or any discernible group of people.
