n_maher Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 Amazon.com: Ellipse: Imogen Heap: Music I love this fucking album You're not alone, it's very good and in heavy rotation around here too.
n_maher Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 Swallow the Sun - New Moon So. Very. Good.
Hopstretch Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 Swallow The Sun -- New Moon This is way off my usual beaten track, but I like it. Maybe I should expand my horizons to include more guttural screaming?
Voltron Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 Or not. Here: Hank Mobley -- Roll Call [Retard Records ND] Gidon Kremer -- Astor Piazzolla - El Tango
Dusty Chalk Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 Swallow The Sun -- New Moon This is way off my usual beaten track, but I like it. Maybe I should expand my horizons to include more guttural screaming?Give Gojira a try -- that's probably the most intelligible guttural screaming short of the actual cookie monster. For me, it's about the music. Cookie monster vocals suck, plain and simple -- some more than others. But they suck. It's not singing. I don't even think there is an analogy to other instruments -- hitting the lowest notes on the piano exclusively? Playing an open chord on a guitar or other stringed instrument? Basically, it's trying your damnedest to try to hit an octave lower harmonically than you are normally capable of. So for me, the music has to be good enough for me to listen to it anyway. Which is one of the reasons I enjoyed Nightingale so much -- clean vocals are so refreshing after so much of that crap.
Voltron Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 I forgot some other stuff: Lots of Lester Young, and now: Chris Bell -- I Am The Cosmos
Hopstretch Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 Sunn O))) -- Monoliths And Dimensions In for penny, in for pound.

Voltron Posted November 26, 2009 Report Posted November 26, 2009 I know I am old, but I get really sick of people in front of me at concerts holding up their damn phones and filming incessantly.
