postjack Posted December 8, 2008 Author Report Posted December 8, 2008 He did Heartbreaker? Nice. Me, I like the Atlantic/Japan 20P2 Zepp discs he did. Still haven't heard better from LZ on CD over 20 years later. nah, he didn't do "heartbreaker", its just my other reference recording. He did do the Def Jam Slayer stuff and the original TVT Pretty Hate Machine.
postjack Posted December 8, 2008 Author Report Posted December 8, 2008 i didn't know he did Pretty Hate Machine. the CD credits Tony Dawsey, but Diament claims he did the mastering. SH Forums - View Single Post - NIN - Pretty Hate Machine, different masterings?
Dusty Chalk Posted December 8, 2008 Report Posted December 8, 2008 I'm willing to try the Diament suggested cardboard boxes full of crumpled newspaper in the corners method, just need to get the supplies and the time. Say whut?
postjack Posted December 8, 2008 Author Report Posted December 8, 2008 Say whut? cheap bass traps. SH Forums - View Single Post - Monitors for 10 x 13ft room, ~$1500 with stands
Dusty Chalk Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 Don't expect them to work well. I don't care if god himself suggested it. Here's my suggestion: accumulate as much newspaper as you can stack from floor to ceiling in four piles. Put them in the boxes. Notice I left out the crumpling part, so yes, I mean stacking newspapers in their original delivered format. The boxes are there to keep the newspaper stacks from falling over. The other nice thing is, if you only have enough to stack to halfway up, you can start with that, and as you accumulate more newspaper, you can keep going. Feel free to run this idea by him. Also, feel free to look up "ethan winer". He's got a whole forum dedicated to cheap, DIY room treatments, despite the fact of being in the business of selling them himself. Makes him a cool cat in my book.
swt61 Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 And then when the house catches fire and goes up in minutes, call me to rebuild it.
Dusty Chalk Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 "They Call Me Dr Wood" -- best personal title evar!!!1!
postjack Posted December 11, 2008 Author Report Posted December 11, 2008 so last night i moved most of my gear into my much larger den. katow! sounds great. all the furniture must help with the bass and dynamics. if i can make it work space wise i might keep it in there.
aardvark baguette Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 way OT, but I once loaded up my car to the brim during a dump-run, and the bass was out of this world. Talk about cheap bass traps
deepak Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 between the furniture and the size and the room, i'm not surprised. You've been to pj's house? I can just imagine you two getting together
Dusty Chalk Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 Plus, no fear of fires. Or lesser, at least.
deepak Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 (edited) Plus, no fear of fires. Or lesser, at least. Unless he moved the speakers into a room with a fireplace... Edited December 12, 2008 by deepak mah spellun real good
Dusty Chalk Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 No, I mean the boxes of newspapers in the corner thing.
postjack Posted December 12, 2008 Author Report Posted December 12, 2008 Unless he moved the speakers into a room with a fireplace... uh-oh...

postjack Posted December 12, 2008 Author Report Posted December 12, 2008 GET THEM FURTHER APART seriously or is this another fire joke? i tried them a little wider but found closer together worked better.
postjack Posted December 12, 2008 Author Report Posted December 12, 2008 well, without knowing the full layout and dimensions of this new room, i couldn't be completely serious hehe. the current setup seems to work with my current listening position, but of course there are months and months of tweaking ahead.
JBLoudG20 Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 hehe. the current setup seems to work with my current listening position, but of course there are months and months of tweaking ahead. I guess it time I publish that audiosutra.
Augsburger Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 seriously or is this another fire joke? i tried them a little wider but found closer together worked better. If you ever use the fireplace, I would definitely recommend moving the speakers further apart and perhaps angeling them in towards the sweet spot. The only challenge will be that you may have one speaker on the area rug and one on the hardwood floor setting up some funky bass reflection issues. "Fire bad for speaker" says mongo....

"Fire bad for speaker" says mongo.... i've actually only used the fireplace once. its cold here now, but i'm still in the deep south, where winter is something that happens for two weeks in january. i am actually looking to setup the turntable right in front of the fireplace to take advantage of the stone mantle floor.
Sherwood Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 It seems like you have one of those hip candles-only fireplaces. Am I right in assuming that?
postjack Posted December 12, 2008 Author Report Posted December 12, 2008 It seems like you have one of those hip candles-only fireplaces. Am I right in assuming that? its an actual functioning fireplace, but currently there are some hip candles in there. i plan on lighting them and turning out the other lights, burning some incense, donning my trusty black robe, and listening to sunn's domkirke at maximum volume.
