Grand Enigma Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 Denon's DVD-A1UD: world's first universal (SACD / DVD-A) Blu-ray player - Engadget SACD, DVD-A and Blu-ray player... for the small sum of $6k
Knuckledragger Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 now oppo needs to do one IAWTC.
Grand Enigma Posted December 3, 2008 Author Report Posted December 3, 2008 Last I heard they were talking some place towards the end of next year.
Dusty Chalk Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 now oppo needs to do one I do believe they're working on it. And Sony will never do a DVD-A player. And the PS3 can be bought in a configuration that will do both Blu-Ray and SACD, I believe.
Hopstretch Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 Yummy. Way too expensive, though. It has the exact same video section as the $1,400 Denon 3800 Blu-ray player, which leaves you with $5,000 over for a separate hi-resolution audio setup.
tkam Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 DVD-A is quite dead it's not something I'd call all that important and yeah the PS3 (some versions at least) can do SACD and Blu-ray for a whole lot less than 6k .
kevin gilmore Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 I'll wait for the oppo. But if the krell dies in the meantime, i'll get this SONY SCD XA-5400ES SUPER AUDIO CD PLAYER, XA5400ES which is getting rave reviews and whose stereo performance is being compared to meitner and dCS. Have picked my new projector for the media room (jvc rs-20) now i have to find a processor/preamp that meets my requirements, currently there aren't any. I want pure native dsd over hdmi with analog volume and balanced outputs. But clearly a player that puts everything on the hdmi connector is the wave of the future, and finally someone with brains can do an ultra high resolution native dsd dac, and then when the player craps out, you throw it out and replace it without having to spend $2k to $3k for a new $149 piece of plastic.
Hopstretch Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 Have picked my new projector for the media room (jvc rs-20) now i have to find a processor/preamp that meets my requirements, currently there aren't any. Jealous. I have an RS-1 and was on the list for the first batch of RS-20s, but ultimately couldn't justify the outlay over my other audio/video priorities. I think you'll be waiting a long time for a DSD pre-pro.
purk Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 Ahh...so that Denon is the replacement of their Denon 5910 huh? I so happy with my Exemplar 5910 right now that I won't upgrade for a very long time.
Icarium Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 That Denon unit is very pretty. Very Esoteric in its aesthetic. That unit that Kevin linked is cool looking too. As is... a ps3 will probably do it for me.
Dusty Chalk Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 That unit that Kevin linked is cool looking too.Yeah, gorgeous.
Dusty Chalk Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 Not black enough...no, wait, yes it is.
Icarium Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 Hrm another handsome unit. Love the brushed metal look of course.
Knuckledragger Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 According to this comment from this thread, it's the firmware that can't support DVD-A. In my experience Endgadget users are morons, but if it's a firmware issue it can presumably be corrected.
Knuckledragger Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 Futhermore: That remote seems kined of retro-looking to me, but it might be fine to use. Is it similar to other Oppo remotes?
n_maher Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 Looks like a great remote to me. Buttons are sufficiently unique in size and shape to allow for differentiation without the need to look at them and there aren't 953 tiny little buttons to allow you to tweak every last setting. Any rumors on the price of this thing?
grawk Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 Does anyone really care about DVD-A? I do
JBLoudG20 Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 Does anyone really care about DVD-A? Lately I've been buying SACD over DVD-A when they are both available.
