The Monkey Posted December 7, 2008 Author Report Posted December 7, 2008 dogfish makes quite a few well over that, as do a few others Ah, I thought it was some acronym. BeerTutor: Highest Alcohol Percentage Beers - Statistics
jp11801 Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 good god, 14% is high. How sweet is it, if at all? this beer did a great job managing sweetness, the DFH 120 is a tough drink as it is syrupy sweet to me with a thick mouthfeel. This has an normal mouthfeel with a sweetness in line with Russion Imperials. The challenge with high ABV beers is most yeast strains die at higher ABVs. You have to engage is different methods to or find stronger than death yeast to brew beers at higher ABVs.
The Monkey Posted December 8, 2008 Author Report Posted December 8, 2008 Monkey In Distress after a couple of those, sho'nuff.
JBLoudG20 Posted December 8, 2008 Report Posted December 8, 2008 dogfish makes quite a few well over that, as do a few others World Wide Stout? EdiT: I checked tha tlist, and my memory served me correctly.
The Monkey Posted December 11, 2008 Author Report Posted December 11, 2008 I was not overly impressed by the Stone IPA I had this evening. My first time trying it. I found it bitter and uninspiring. But I was cranky and I don't think it was cold enough. I like the Arrogant Bastard more.

The Monkey Posted December 13, 2008 Author Report Posted December 13, 2008 The Stone Vertical Epic is excellent. Very dry at first taste, then flowery hops and a burst of malt followed by a clean almost spicy finish. Really very good stuff. Now if I'd only waited until 2012 when I'm supposed to drink it...

WTF why can't I find Stone around here.
JBLoudG20 Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 Man I'm getting CT cock blocked. Stone Brewing Co. : About Us... : Distributors I have to go to Springfield to get it, where I've seen it fucking everywhere.
grawk Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 One thing to be aware of is the more complex a beer is, the closer to room temperature you'll need to drink it to catch the flavors.
MrSlacker Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 Went beer shopping with my brother today Goal was to pick up different beers because so far, I haven't tried a lot of beers and want to get into it a bit more. How did we do?
Dusty Chalk Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 I don't know, tell us after you've drunk them.
jinp6301 Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 Had Allagash White today with a friend. it was yummy
Duggeh Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 Went beer shopping with my brother today Goal was to pick up different beers because so far, I haven't tried a lot of beers and want to get into it a bit more. How did we do? Dark Erdinger is one of my favourite beers and possibly my favourite bottled beer. Youngs Double Chocolate Stout, I havent seen that for a fair while on the shelves around here. Of late I have been enjoying
The Monkey Posted January 10, 2009 Author Report Posted January 10, 2009 Slacker, I think you did well, except that the title of the package should be "Exclusive NOT Belgian Ales" as none of those are Belgian. Regardless, I enjoyed many a Zywiec (though not the porter) when I visited Krakow some time ago. Good stuff as I recall. I've seen it at a couple of places in the city.
grawk Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 I'm pretty sure they are belgian tho monkey.
The Monkey Posted January 10, 2009 Author Report Posted January 10, 2009 I'm pretty sure they are belgian tho monkey. I was stupidly thinking that the bottles pictured had come in the case shown. Ignore me. Long week...
kpeezy Posted January 14, 2009 Report Posted January 14, 2009 Went beer shopping with my brother today Goal was to pick up different beers because so far, I haven't tried a lot of beers and want to get into it a bit more. How did we do? I really like that Franziskaner with the red label.
Hopstretch Posted January 14, 2009 Report Posted January 14, 2009 That Young's stout isn't too shabby either. Mmm, double chocolate, aaarrrggh.
Filburt Posted January 14, 2009 Report Posted January 14, 2009 Dogfish Head 60 is one of my favorites. The 75 Dan turned me on to at the Alehouse was excellent as well. The 120 is not one of my favorites. I've been drinking a lot of Stone IPA, Ruination, Arrogant Bastard and Arrogant Bastard Oaked now that it is available locally. All good stuff. I really like the AB. I've also been drinking Sweatwater 420 which is out of GA. This is one that is always available at the Langerado Music Festival. Now if only Bear Republic was available here. The Racer 5 and Hop Head Rye are excellent. I'm a big fan of the Celebrator Double Bock. It's not cheap but worth the price, imo. Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout is another favorite. If you like Celebrator you might like the Dogfish Head Palo Santo Marron.
