Guest sacd lover Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 Buffalo owns my panties. I miss the one I put together. I cant imagine how good this one you built would be with a better output stage. I know some of you seem satisfied with the IVY .... but I think the IVY really handicaps the Buffalo compared to my dacs with zap filter or similar discrete output stages. I like the Opus / zap filter FF build better. But, I think the Buffalo has more potential.
swt61 Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 The thing I discovered about the Zapfilter though, is that it seems to impart it's own sound sig. on everything it's connected to. Not sure that's a bad thing, because it sounds good, but I'm wanting to hear another discrete output stage to judge. Good to see you over here Brian!
Nebby Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 I got my counterpoint boards in yesterday, and they're a bit more imposing in person than they are in the picture!
Smeggy Posted April 21, 2009 Report Posted April 21, 2009 x3 those look nice! I'd like to get one of these one day If I can cobble enough cash together.
Nebby Posted April 26, 2009 Report Posted April 26, 2009 After getting the counterpoints hooked up and fixing a very annoying hum grounding issue, I'm listening to music...and it's goood. Can't wait to try out the vref mod, as soon as the parts come in.
naamanf Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 I just happen to have a Buffalo32 in my possession now. It tastes delicious.
luvdunhill Posted May 8, 2009 Report Posted May 8, 2009 Wish I could give it a listening to! time to fire Skype up!
Nebby Posted May 8, 2009 Report Posted May 8, 2009 time to fire Skype up! great idea! should do headphone reviews that way too
Lil' Knight Posted May 23, 2009 Report Posted May 23, 2009 I just wonder if 1200-1300$ (balanced out, usb, optical in, parmetal case) is a fair price for a prebuilt Buff32? I'm painstakingly finding a builder and received some offers but still not sure if it's fine.
Spiug31 Posted May 23, 2009 Report Posted May 23, 2009 well, thrice has one he`s built for sale at $1350 Rockhopper Audio Buffalo DAC n.b. might have been better to put your query in its own thread rather than bumping this one
Lil' Knight Posted May 23, 2009 Report Posted May 23, 2009 I'm trying to find the Buff32. I thought this thread is about the Buffalo.
Nebby Posted May 24, 2009 Report Posted May 24, 2009 This thread is about the buffalo, yes; but it's not quite about purchasing a pre-built one though
n_maher Posted May 24, 2009 Report Posted May 24, 2009 I'm trying to find the Buff32. I thought this thread is about the Buffalo. My prediction is that you'll waste a lot of quality listening time waiting for a 32 and given my own Buffalo experience thrice's DAC will sound outstanding. And I also think you'll have a hard time finding a well built example with the options that you're looking for in the ~$1200 ballpark. I wouldn't do it.
morphsci Posted May 24, 2009 Report Posted May 24, 2009 I have to agree with Nate, I have put in about $700+ in parts and I do not have any casework, USB input or controller/display pieces/parts yet. Unless someone grossly undervalues their labor it may be hard to find someone to build one for you for that price. That being said, this thing has an astounding level of flexibility and potential from my rather simplistic viewpoint.

After all, you're retired.

grawk Posted May 24, 2009 Report Posted May 24, 2009 This thread is about the buffalo, yes; but it's not quite about purchasing a pre-built one though That's ok, we don't need to have new threads created for simple questions. You don't need to worry about controlling things like that.

grawk Posted May 24, 2009 Report Posted May 24, 2009 Good point, my apologies for being a tard. You can't apologize for that, only your parents can. Didn't they know cousins shouldn't marry?
