n_maher Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 Wake me when it's not restricted to T-mo. Their coverage map in my neck of the woods looks even worse than AT&T.
episiarch Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 My understanding is that it's not restricted to T-Mobile, it's just that T-Mobile is the only carrier right now with a subsidized purchase price. It ought to work with AT&T if you have a valid SIM card.

It ought to work with AT&T if you have a valid SIM card. It will work with AT&T but will not have access to their 3G network, because that's on a different band that its radio doesn't support. Suspect that's a nonstarter for most people. The only thing I covet is the N wireless. EDIT: Penger > Stretch.
penger Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 FWIW Your answer is more complete. =) They using US, UK, HK, and Singapore as test markets. Makes me hope that they'll release a phone that has the right bands for ATT 3g in Taiwan which I'll be able to pick up... but that's wishful thinking at this point.
The Monkey Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 I may just get the Nexus One for work. EDIT: when it comes to a provider that works in NYC, that is (i.e., Verizon).
Hopstretch Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 (edited) I may just get the Nexus One for work. EDIT: when it comes to a provider that works in NYC, that is (i.e., Verizon). I would do that. It looks like by far the best Verizon phone. One possible wrinkle, no lossless audio support except WAV. You're gonna need a big SD card. Edited January 6, 2010 by Hopstretch
Salt Peanuts Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 I would do that. It looks like by far the best Verizon phone. One possible wrinkle, no lossless audio support except WAV. You're gonna need a big SD card. And hopefully, Verizon won't gimp the hell out of it, like they like to do to their phones.
n_maher Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 And hopefully, Verizon won't gimp the hell out of it, like they like to do to their phones. I'd like to think they won't have the option to do so. I'm now pretty much in a holding pattern as far as my next phone goes. There's too much on the 2010 horizon between AT&T's Apple contract expiring, the gphone potentially coming to Verizon, rumors of an Iphone refresh, etc. Seems like now is a bad time to buy a phone if you want to be on Verizon's network.
penger Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 Well even AT&T announced they're joining the Android party the first half of 2010 in addition to saying they'll be getting WebOS phones.
Salt Peanuts Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 Let's hope you're right, Nate. I'd love to switch to something like iPhone or Nexus One on Verizon, assuming the cost is reasonable (always a bad assumption).
postjack Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 so there is officially no multitouch on the Nexus One. then who gives a rats ass about it? next please. next please!
The Monkey Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 I wish the Nexus 1 had a real fucking keyboard.
grawk Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 so there is officially no multitouch on the Nexus One. then who gives a rats ass about it? next please. next please! that picture makes me want some roscoe's
The Monkey Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 I might well be going Droid. The Engadget review of the Nexus One basically concludes that they prefer the Droid.
MexicanDragon Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 I'd put the Nexus One on VZW at the same 179$ pricepoint as it will be with T-Mobile, and the Droid dropping down to the same (after being out for 6 months). Look for this price After MIR, though. @Dinny, if you want a keyboard, why not the Droid? **BRENT**

Nate, looks like the word is there won't be a Verizon iPhone until summer at the earliest. Exclusive: Qualcomm to Power Apple iPhone | Technology | Financial Articles & Investing News | TheStreet.com
n_maher Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 I might well be going Droid. I demo'd one in store last week, I didn't like it. I liked the Eris better. And Stretch, waiting till summer time would be fine. I'm going to try a headset with the iPhone and see if that'll be sufficient for times when the in-car volume leaves me wanting.
Dusty Chalk Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 I demo'd one in store last week, I didn't like it. I liked the Eris better. Thanks, I'll be sure to demo first.
n_maher Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 Thanks, I'll be sure to demo first. It just felt clunky, overly thick, and I for one don't need the physical keyboard and couldn't help but think that it would have been a better phone without it. The lack of multi-touch also pissed me off considering the Eris has it and is supposedly the "stripped down version".
tkam Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 Not sure how the droid is overly thick when it's pretty much exactly the same thickness as an iphone. But yeah if you don't need the keyboard then the Eris makes some sense, as it's also cheaper.

The lack of multi-touch also pissed me off considering the Eris has it and is supposedly the "stripped down version".(makes mental note: 'things to look for') I'm actually thinking I might wait 'til summer, too. I'm going to see if I can get my Palm 700p replaced under the extended service plan, but I might be too late in the game to do so. I'm happy with the tiniest of keyboards over a soft one, but I do prefer a real keyboard.
n_maher Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 Not sure how the droid is overly thick when it's pretty much exactly the same thickness as an iphone. (L to R, 3G iPhone, Droid, iPhone in a case) Taken from this article - Droid vs. iPhone Size Comparison ? Jangro.com I'd echo their impression that the angular sides of the droid make it feel even thicker.
Salt Peanuts Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 so there is officially no multitouch on the Nexus One. then who gives a rats ass about it? next please. Supposedly, the hardware is multi-touch capable, so it's a software issue - which makes you wonder why they (Google/HTC) chose to go this route.
