luvdunhill
I'm looking for some Orthos to experiment with. Basic config will be a "preamp" capable of putting out balanced ~30v per leg, then run into a balanced TVC then to the cans. I have a feeling this will really show what Orthos can do. Just need to find some phones
spritzer
Don't you have some SFI's to play with?
Smeggy
Gah, I've been looking at AMBs site and I'm just as confused as before. I think I'll just chicken out and buy an amp.
luvdunhill
Don't you have some SFI's to play with? yeah, Steve has a set. I'd need the lower impedance versions. I'm consider ransoming his new phono preamp for them.

Nonsense. http://www.nisbeth.dk/uffe/files/headfi/mcubed-bom.xls That'll get you started on a BOM for the amp. You gotta learn at some point. You gotta learn at some point. Bah, I hate you Ok, I'll buy them. If I fuck it all up it'll be on your head, and If I get killed, are you sure your conscience can live with it? EDIT: waidaminit, I'm not doing this unless I have a complete idiot proof list of all parts including everything I'd need for the PSU as well. That's what got me flummoxed with the Gainclone. I can't leave anything parts-wise to chance or I just know it'll never get done. Is the PSU similar to the Beta 22 one?
n_maher
Hmmm, given your most recent statements I'm having second thoughts. First things first, you could try posting a WTB thread at Head-Fi for an M

n_maher
I'd ideally need a couple of watts, 1-3 should do the trick. Sorta need to know what load the orthos will present to the amp to know if an M
luvdunhill
Smeggy: Maybe we can barter some skill sets Do you have a price range in mind?
spritzer
yeah, Steve has a set. I'd need the lower impedance versions. I'm consider ransoming his new phono preamp for them. I have some extra if you need them. I even have a set (Sony ECR400 chassis) with drivers epoxied into place but I don't have any spare cables... Smeggy
Smeggy: Maybe we can barter some skill sets Do you have a price range in mind? Hmm, I was only looking at about $200-250 as I'm way too broke for more than that. That's why I was looking at the DV Figaro or similar and also why I'm now into cheap but good phones and DIY-ing them up. The M^3 parts including PSU would come in just under the radar and I'm still pondering that one. I certainly couldn't afford anyone building one for me. I'm also looking into the potential of doing a swap of one of my K1000s for a good amp like a Beta 22.

Smeggy
It would be very nice to have both an M^3 and a Beta 22 as work and home rigs and they'd be powerful enough to drive everything I have from the K1000 to 'Stats, 'trets and orthos. That's pretty much my dream setup, well, that and eventually a good USB DAC too as funds allow. I couldn't wish for better. *dreams a happy dream*
spritzer
so, you have a set that needs a cable? Hmmm.. have you listened to them, or just a wild guess? I've never fired them up but the drivers were tested before I installed them. You are welcome to them and spare set of drivers if you want. n_maher
FYI Smeggy, you could probably unload a pair of your K1Ks and more than cover the beta22 Mike listed today.
Smeggy
Heh, if that's the one Young used to own, I actually got a look at it at one of the Seattle meets. Sadly he was short on time and packing up so I didn't get a chance to listen to it.
