tyrion Posted September 14, 2008 Author Report Posted September 14, 2008 I have absolutely no good advice for you, but I did notice that your artistic skill have improved greatly since the days of crooked smiles and bad noses on bald heads. Who are you? Oh yeah, I remember you. Vicki, right? I'll take any compliment I can get. I'm sure after Tampa, there will be some more crooked smiles and bad noses on bald heads.

tyrion Posted September 15, 2008 Author Report Posted September 15, 2008 Nugget Audio approves of this setup. Thanks, that is important. By the way, I had the beta at home this weekend since one of my monos died. I had it connected through my preamp. I put the beta volume at about 4:00 and used the pre to control volume. Plenty of volume and excellent sq. I never got it high enough where it clipped and I had it pretty loud to test it.
tyrion Posted September 15, 2008 Author Report Posted September 15, 2008 Eww wires. Turned out it doesn't look so bad. Just another reason why Al is the DOTU.
tyrion Posted September 15, 2008 Author Report Posted September 15, 2008 Moved the amp to the right, which eliminated most of the wires in back:
Hopstretch Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Noo! The amp-as-monitor-stand was awesome. Get a drill and run the wires inside the desk.
Voltron Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Awesome! You even moved the poster. You really do listen to me. Hmm, that gives me an idea... *PayPal DOTU $3000 to fulfill his HeadRoom Audiophile Desktop dreams* /hypnosis Hey, looks good Mike. I am not sure which I like better but as a symmetry nut who cares less about wires than that panty-waist Jay, I would probably stick with the first one. Either way it looks great and your view is not wasted. Which client did you bill for the time?

guzziguy Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Or you can buy some Sarn "Clearus" cables. These are the first invisible cables on the market. You can have the great warm neutral Sarn sound and yet not have cable clutter.
morphsci Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Way to come to your senses and not waste the view. Looks better with the amp on the right. I like having the volume control off to one side plus the monitor is lower and doesn't obscure the view as much. Two thumbs way up.

I have a view of hell (IRS building across the street). Way to come to your senses and not waste the view. Looks better with the amp on the right. n_maher Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 It'll be better when you have a second beta on the left to regain symmetry.
tyrion Posted September 15, 2008 Author Report Posted September 15, 2008 It'll be better when you have a second beta on the left to regain symmetry. Beta 22 monoblocks, I like that.
Torpedo Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Quite nice mate. Next step is getting speakers a bit bigger on tall stands, moving them closer to the wall and window in front of you, and start listening in some near-field instead of that ultranear-field. You could get a nice distant perspective which you might like.
Salt Peanuts Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Beta 22 monoblocks, I like that. Make them 24's.
tyrion Posted September 15, 2008 Author Report Posted September 15, 2008 Make them 24's. Nate keeps telling me I can't afford them.
guzziguy Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Nate keeps telling me I can't afford them. Who's the counsel here, you or Nate?
tyrion Posted September 15, 2008 Author Report Posted September 15, 2008 Who's the counsel here, you or Nate? I'm afraid on these matters Nate is the counselor.
n_maher Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 Nate keeps telling me I can't afford them. Once Al gets his SimpleSE monoblocks you'll be singing a different tune. note: this is a huge joke, I'm not building any more than one simpleSE, and it's for me.
Salt Peanuts Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 note: this is a huge joke, I'm not building any more than one simpleSE, and it's for me. Wait, you actually build something for yourself?
Tyll Hertsens Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 Nugget Audio approves of this setup. So does me. Glad you're getting to use the stands Mike ... but they look awful empty to me.
