Knuckledragger Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 A friend of mine, who understands this kind of stuff said "Chrome seems to be the culmination of a lot of good ideas from other browsers, plus a nifty engine to run it all." He elaborated on various bits they'd swiped from Opera, FFX, etc. I like FFX3 enough that Chrome will have to be really good for me to switch.
Fungi Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 On the other hand, I have enough issues with every available browser that Chrome is quite possibly the very thing I've been looking for.
aardvark baguette Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 The multiple 'sandboxes' have me worried. There is a reason I hate IE
deepak Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 (edited) More choices is never a bad thing, go Google Woah mutli threaded browser Edited September 2, 2008 by deepak
krrm Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 Yeah, so it can hang all cores, just like in the old days
blessingx Posted September 2, 2008 Author Report Posted September 2, 2008 And more support for WebKit is a plus in my book too. This hopefully won't put any more stress on web developers as many were already taking into account other WebKit browsers like Safari/MobileSafari, Adobe Air, etc. (not to mention Googles furture Android and the earlier version of KHTML in Konqueror).
tkam Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 I don't really see the point of yet another browser at this time but whatever. It being multi-threaded shouldn't be a huge surprise though, pretty much all software needs to start making that transition if it wants to keep up.
Hopstretch Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 Also happy to see more love for Webkit. Let's just hope Chrome for Windows is a better implementation than Safari for Windows.
iceman94 Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 One more step in Google's quest to dominate the world. But wait, I thought they "do no evil"?
blessingx Posted September 2, 2008 Author Report Posted September 2, 2008 Introducing a browser (based on open standards) is evil now?
iceman94 Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 I meant to be sarcastic, but it is interesting to watch how they're extending themselves, and I do feel the response would be different were they a different company.
grawk Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 I find it hard to imagine a way that releasing a browser would be considered evil. Hell, people were glad when microsoft introduced something to compete with netscape back in the day. It was only when they started "embracing and extending" standards that people decided that IE was evil.
tkam Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 it's officially out now: Google Chrome - Download a new browser
grawk Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 Banned you using webkit, but in safari.
Icarium Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 Personal opinion is that it's kind of silly not to wait to do a simultaneous mac/linux release.
tkam Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 I see no reason to wait Windows still does have a 90%+ market share in the desktop arena.
n_maher Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 Posting this using Chrome The temptation to edit your posts to look like nonsense is not small, just for the funny factor.
laxx Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 I tried it out. Fast browser, but I like my alt+s hotkey that seems to only work in IE7.
