hungrych
The whole Hoffman/Gray Blue Note remasters and all of that stuff is great, but 45 bucks for one album is just too much to spend on an album unless I'm absolutely sure it has unsurpassed sound quality. What are the definite must haves in both music in sound quality? There are just too many times where I've read about some expensive new LP version of something that doesn't actually give any improvement, or is worse than the original. aardvark baguette
I'm told my copy of This One's For Blanton (Duke Ellington + Ray Brown) was unusually awesome iirc, in terms of being quiet, clean, etc. The music is of course superlative, that much is obvious. You could look into getting a used copy of it, or possible a test disc from Acoustic Sounds. I'd also say there is a 50/50 chance I'll be selling all my vinyl after its been transferred and shipped back to me. Which is an assortment of Fantasy 45s, misc, and eventually the entire series of Music Matters 45s, with the same serial number. These will have been cleaned and played probably 1-3 times, just enough to get a perfect digital transfer.
postjack
$50 an album really. Outrageous price. Harder to justify for the Acoustech Blue Note releases, since they don't get the full gatefold treatment, complete with the unbelievably vivid glossy photographs. I've bought Tunisia, Big Beat, and Soul Station. They are all amazing. I plan to buy as many as my wallet will allow me.
