lostonetr Posted September 1, 2008 Report Posted September 1, 2008 I was at mitsuwa once, and a pack of kids rolled in. One was like "look guys it's the naruto ramen!" All I could do was smile and look at my friend who watches that show. I still haven't quite developed a taste for cold soba. Maybe I need to try it at a few other places. Or I could just vastly prefer chinese style cold noodles.

laxx Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 There's this real good ramen place on 45th Street between 2nd and 3rd AVE. I was feinding for it last night, lol.
zippy2001 Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 Okay, I went to Santouka on sunday and had a large bowl of the shio ramen. It really hit the spot The roast pork does just melt in your mouth. I do like the spicy miso ramen at Shinsengumi, yummy.
laxx Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 Woops, would like to make a correction. 45th Street between Lexington and 3rd. Menchanko-Tei, I really like their Hakata Ramen.
Edwood Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 Everything closes down so early in the South Bay of LA. But in Torrance, there is a Japanese Diner that is open until 3am. But it's their Ramen and Mabodon Lunch special I like the most. It's affordable and tasty. Although, my wife is embarassed to go there now, because we were eating lunch there when her water broke. -Ed
Icarium Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 tonkatsu anything is great Tonkotsu and Tonkatsu are different the first is a pork bone based broth and the second is a fried pork cutlet
zippy2001 Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 Tonkotsu and Tonkatsu are different the first is a pork bone based broth and the second is a fried pork cutlet True, but most things made with pork taste good! Pork Fat Rules!
laxx Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 Dammit, I'm going to get some ramen for lunch today.
lostonetr Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 @zippy2001: ever hit up ebisu ramen for their lunch specials? Very standard fare, but a lot of food for $8.
lostonetr Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 ah. sorry to do this. Anyone hit up foo foo tei or tamaya in hacienda heights before? Wanted to enlist your opinions. Yelp ain't exactly always trustworthy. I know this place ain't gonna be better than santouka, but Irvine's far, wondering if these places are good enough.
laxx Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 Had a nice big bowl of Hakkata Ramen. I'm going back tomorrow for their Sara-Udon.

Hey, it's not a major purchase, it's just a bowl of ramen. Just go give them a try. If you like either one, great, you've found a nearby place to get ramen. If not, at least you know to keep looking. Actually, you should keep looking anyway. It's always fun to find a new place.
grawk Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 But Ken, he is incapable of making up his own mind. He's from the current generation who learns his opinions from others.
guzziguy Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 Too bad, discovery is one of the great joys of life.

lostonetr Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 Went with option #3 . Taiwanese noodle house.

Fungi Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 I just ate some spaghetti. I tossed it all up in a frying pan and my roommate said that I was so Asian for doing it that way.
