No idea what it sounds like but it certainly appears to be fully discrete to my untrained eye. Not sure what that's worth exactly (being fully discrete) though since I've heard plenty of opamp based designs that sounded great as well.

Bingo. Shitty discrete design is still a shitty design. There is nothing inherently wrong with opamps. It's the same shit as (an equivalent) discrete design, but packed into one IC.

You're not implying that the Purity design is shit though, right? I don't know enough to judge.

Not always, I know KG's designs could not be made into op-amps

no, it was a joke - Burston "discrete op-amps" are modules that are dip-8 compatible and supposedly (only seen them on the internet) all discrete. ;)

Edit: I didn't notice the reference KG and discrete design when I posted above joke. Please excuse my dumb assed-ness.

I'm curious why you never come out and say that your amp is a discrete design, given that the direct question has been asked here and on HF. I don't really care one way or the other, but what is the answer?

our amps are all discrete design. I thought I had mentioned that somewhere on our website. I think it is also posted on tbonner1's review of our amp on HF. And to answer the OP's question directly - it does not suck;)

And all parents think their children are beautiful....... Somebody's just gonna have to buy one to put this to bed.

Don't look at me.

Didn't you get any birthday checks from any auties or uncles you could put towards a KIKAS Caliente? :o

I wasn't implying that all circuits can be made into IC's. I was just saying that most(all?) IC's can be made into discrete designs.

They certainly can be made into discrete design, but that will not necessarily make it a good idea to do so:

From Integrated circuit design - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"A challenge most critical to analog IC design involves the variability of the individual devices built on the semiconductor chip. Unlike board-level circuit design which permits the designer to select devices that have each been tested and binned according to value, the device values on an IC can vary widely which are uncontrollable by the designer. For example, some IC resistors can vary
