Dusty Chalk
I wouldn't necessarily extrapolate her deeds to the entire genre. But ... yeezh -- why did I watch that?
Fungi
Screw the name, it's all about slick production. Who cares if nobody's really singing?
blessingx
I just meant the potentially new low points of contemporary pop. There's still plenty of decent pop being made...

Old Pa
I could do that. Especially the parts where I rub my own body. Yeah, I could do that good.
LFF
To give Ms. Spears some credit - she is doing some dance moves while singing. Hence that loud "backing vocal track". She does need a little help. Now, if you want to hear some good pop music (though not so modern), listen to the isolated vocal tracks of the Beach Boys. Now that's real pop music. EDIT: Vampire Weekend is also rather good for being modern.

Hopstretch
Incorrect. It's not rather good, or it's not being modern? Or both?
en480c4
It's not rather good, or it's not being modern? Or both? The former. In fact, I think they're rather putrid. After reading so much about them, I was looking forward to their appearance on SNL and while I'm sure I could've been underwhelmed more, I'm not sure how. They were just... bad. Uninspired songwriting, horrible vocals... I heard nothing redeeming.

That was the only exposure I've had to them, and it certainly didn't give me any reason to seek out their studio material.

I would have had the same reaction. It's good to know they suck live because I would go see them live based on their studio album.
grawk
SNL is perhaps the worst possible place to judge someone's performance, the audio always sucks, and no one is there to see the band. Not that I have an opinion on that particular band.
aardvark baguette
I remember seeing video of Smash Mouth live and it was just awful. Not SNL though.

n_maher
I do like their album though. Having just listened to it I'm kind of shocked to learn this. I'm sure it's just a case of divergent musical tastes but they do nothing for me on a musical or production level.
Knuckledragger
In spite of myself, I kind of like the Aly & AJ track.
slwiser
This gives me a better appreciation for "World Wide Wrestling" now, much better.
aardvark baguette
Pop/Rock/Metal music being the way it is these days has played a large part in my transition to almost all jazz. Its just in another realm of quality. I've got to a point where if I turn on the rock radio on my way to work, I just laugh.

I have to think if you put as much effort into finding decent pop/rock/metal as you do into tracking down jazz, you might be pleasantly surprised The radio is most certainly not the place to be looking

Its like there are no duds in the bunch
