Blackmore Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 I was asking this before, not here, but I do not have that impression that these were ever tried by somebody. As far as I know you can not buy them in Europe or U.S.A., but in Russia is no problem. When they came out, like year ago, they were like USD 250-300 and now you can get them for like USD 140. So, the question is, anybody who can share? I am not looking for an review, cos I have seen them, just need "inside" information, if you know what I am talking about, someone from community... THX
Blackmore Posted August 20, 2008 Author Report Posted August 20, 2008 These are very good looking, seems that they are very good build quality as well. From what I have read, they are not all-rounder, but for classical and acoustic music especially, they are superb.
Dusty Chalk Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 That's a weird looking back, they aren't ribbons, perchance, are they?
Akathisia Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 They look like they are the same headphone as these : http://www.grandsun.net.cn/en/product/product_Details.asp?id=1 There was a thread over at the other place recently about these. The Shenzhen Grandsun GS-800 Feel the nature voice. lol. Patent application number: 200720118126.4. Made in China for the first time, it chooses the high quality red sandalwood of Paraguay to polish with unique manual work; the ear-cap chooses the high quality protein synthetic leather of South Korea with excellent penetrability and skin-friendly effect; the spongy body of ear-cap chooses the import inert sponge which is sanitary and durable, and is hard to be deformed; the Hi-Fi driving unit adopts H neodymium magnet with broad high-low audio, plump tonal quality; the high quality ccaw copper clad aluminum coil makes the tonal quality even better. speaker and wire: speaker diameter: φ40mm Speaker Resistance: 32Ω
Dusty Chalk Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 I'm pretty sure I don't want "plump" tonal quality. Sounds bloated.i tried a google search to find some info on these phones, and this thread was the first result. not real helpful.Me too!
n_maher Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 Wow, pretty craptacular specs regarding nominal impedance. +/- 15%?!??! I'm imagining a room full of monkeys and drivers getting closer matched pairs... There also appears to be a model 802, closed back version.
Aura Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 Aesthetically, I really like them. You certainly won't see any other headphone looking similar to that style .
Dusty Chalk Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 (edited) This is not the same headphone, but I thought it appropriate considering some of the recent comments about its looks: Edited August 20, 2008 by Dusty Chalk
Smeggy Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 They're pretty damn ugly, maybe they make up for it in nice personality. The price isn't bad providing they sound good. I'd like to see their innards to find out what they've done in that weird shape.
Smeggy Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 Hehe. HD 700, look for the 'made in China' sticker I'd like to find out where to find some of their low end cheapo phones, some look like they'd make great foster phones for other drivers.
Smeggy Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 I think they look kinda cool! That's it, you're banned. Oh, congrats on the new custom title too
Blackmore Posted August 20, 2008 Author Report Posted August 20, 2008 Well, there is nothing in English, even their official website in Russian. So, basically means they arent interesting in EU or USA market at all, well, at least headphones. [url=http://www.arthurforty.ru/]

MaloS Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 I just read that Russian site: there are two headphones listed, both are dynamics. They are made by a British company Arthur Forty (oh...wait, that's the tread title :-P) - so they are not eastern European or anything. The EWS 1X is listed to be designed purposefully for listening to acoustic music and thus (they actually say that out loud!) colored to accent the tone of string, brass, and woodwind instruments. They are 32 ohm with 109 dB sensitivity, so my guess is that they were not really targeting the audiophile market...but then why the hell did they use wood and make it so ugly... the driver is 40 mm, on the side of larger dynamic drivers in headphones.
Blackmore Posted August 25, 2008 Author Report Posted August 25, 2008 I have read all that crap to, so now I am doubting to buy one, however pairing them with some nice portable amp or home one may change their idea of accoustics only. When they came out, they were EUR 220 or something, and now they are like EUR 100... Thats because of the new following model, which they claim as all rounder, but they are closed back called ARTHUR FORTY PSC EWS X.O I just read that Russian site: there are two headphones listed, both are dynamics. MaloS Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 Well at the price they may be worth a jab strictly because if they driver has at least some potential (same great imaging and detail), then maybe the newer models are worth looking at.
