Akathisia Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 So I am getting ready to order a Hakko 936 as my cheap-o irons have pretty much had it. Which soldering tips do you guys recommend? I'm not real big on single use tools, so which tip would you consider the swiss army knife for the Hakko? I will be soldering my first SMD parts so something that runs the gammut would be great. Thanks
Pars Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 The stock one is the one I use most. If you are going to be doing small SMD parts they have a 1/16" chisel tip that works well. If you have a Fry's around they stock many of the tips if you want to look at them before deciding.
ingwe Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 Don't touch it when its hot. Don't use in bathtub. Don't poke in eye. Oh right...nevermind...

ingwe Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 I know, I know... Just don't ask me to rank my headphones.
Fitz Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 I use the stock tip 95% of the time (still using the original one like new after a couple years or so), but I mainly do p2p and through-hole work, not smd.
grawk Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 i outrank your headphones, you know. That would stop being true if you showered more often.
DigiPete Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 --- clean the tip often, if not every time you solder a component ---
