riceboy Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 I've been watching quite a bit of Olympics so far, the men's 4x100 relay last night was crazy. It's not everyday you see a world record get destroyed by 4 seconds. X2. The race was just crazy. It was just fantastic to see them coming down to the wire on the final finish.
grawk Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 This men's synchronized diving is one of the creepiest things I've ever seen. It's like NAMBLA grooming as a sport.
Voltron Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 This men's synchronized diving is one of the creepiest things I've ever seen. It's like NAMBLA grooming as a sport. How can you say that?
fordgtlover Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 It was a very entertaining game. China held its own in the first quarter with great perimeter play and also thanks to the USA's own dismal 3-point performance. But China scored too few points in the 2nd quarter and also committed way too many turnovers. After that the US team found its rhythm and it was game over for China. Yi had a terrible game up until the last quarter but by then it was already too late. Yao didn't do too well either. It seems that China just turned the ball over way too much and got punished for it most of the time. Man I loved the basketball game. It hard to take a bunch of egos, put them all on one (dream) team, and have them play good basketball. But damn, they can sure put on a show, and toy with a team like China. Now if they could only get it together for something other than a dunkfest, we may be on to something. I couldn't get over the athleticism of the US team. These guys just are just amazing. I normally find basketball a bit dull, but that game just rocked. Is that the quality of basketball you Americans get to watch on a regular basis? If it is, I think I'd watch basketball a lot more. By way of contrast, I watched the Australia V Brasil Women's game last night. While there was certainly some fine 3 point shooting, the game was just so much slower and simply less entertaining.

Playoff basketball is usually that good. It's not such an ass kicking like it was in the Olympics, other than for maybe this most recent Celts v Lakers
fordgtlover Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 Playoff basketball is usually that good. It's not such an ass kicking like it was in the Olympics, other than for maybe this most recent Celts v Lakers Of course, my interest was far less about the ass kicking, and more about the speed of the game and the athleticism. Of course, I'd heard names like Lebron James and Kobe Bryant in the news, but never really paid much attention. These guys rocked!!! Of course, it's possible that because of the pretty poor show by the China team the US team simply looked so much better. I'll keep an eye out for future games to see whether my initial impressions stand. I'll stop rabbiting on about it now. I don't want a rep as a US basketball fanboy
JBLoudG20 Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 college ball can be fun. i'm the same way with football, not a big NFL fan, but i love me some NCAA. College ball FTW. GO UCONN
deepak Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 college ball can be fun. i'm the same way with football, not a big NFL fan, but i love me some NCAA. Move out of Ohio there is good NFL to be had
saint.panda Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 Watched wrestling today. Both finals were Russia against Azerbaijan, and Russia won both. China almost had a bronze but it wasn't meant to be, oh well. Great atmosphere and I'm getting quite addicted to that Olympic spirit. Phelps had another good day today.
jinp6301 Posted August 13, 2008 Author Report Posted August 13, 2008 Oh man, Phelps is amazing. and the US Women's Gymnastics team ALMOST got there
aardvark baguette Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 I wasn't aware there was wrestling. All I've seen is swimming and gymnastics. Wrestling would be more interesting than gymnastics for me, since its head-to-head competition, rather than a performance from one country at a time. It would also help eliminate some judge bias.
n_maher Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 Am I the only one who is convince that the Chinese are lying about the age of their gymnasts? There is no way that some of those girls are 16.

tkam Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 Some of them probably aren't 16 yet but it's not like anyone can prove it.
n_maher Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 That's been in the news for a little while now. I know, I just hadn't been watching much of the gymnastics stuff till last night and was kind of like .

saint.panda Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 Yup, they're lying and almost everybody here knows that, but nobody can prove it.
ojnihs Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 college ball can be fun. i'm the same way with football, not a big NFL fan, but i love me some NCAA. ncaa owns nfl and yes, china is definitely lying about the age of those girls
saint.panda Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 One of the girls was only 13 last year and this article was released by Xinhua, the national news agency http://sports.sina.com.cn/o/p/2007-11-03/22383268989.shtml And it would seem that not even the Chinese can avoid the blue screen of death
ojnihs Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 good fucking god that 100 m fly was the shit
saint.panda Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 Just got back from watching Bolt run the 100m in 9.69 seconds. Everybody in the stadium went absolutely nuts!
