n_maher Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 Point of clarification: all thanks should be directed to Ian who pointed me to the GH versions this morning. My only skill is in finding links.
deepak Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 (edited) wow, the mfsl vinyl is brick walled as well? I believe MoFi received the master brickwalled, so there was nothing much they could do other than press the vinyl at a low volume to give the illusion that it isn't total junk. Ted Jensen one of the studio engineers commented about it on the Metallica forums according to someone at SH. edit: I don't know what came of this- but someone said Kevin Gray's initials were in the dead wax of the regular edition vinyl, but when asked he didn't comment Edited September 18, 2008 by deepak
Knuckledragger Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 At the risk of sounding like a complete assfacedhole, I am going to ignore the existence of Death Magnetic and dig up a few more Kyuss live boots. I haven't cared much for Metallica since the 1980s. I did enjoy the trainwreck that was Some Kind of Monster, however.
grawk Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 You're welcome to do that, but why post about it in a thread about the metallica album?
Knuckledragger Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 Have you seen Some Kind of Monster?
LFF Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 Well, just listening to the 320 kbps .mp3s, the difference is pretty staggering. For those of you that like the music on the album, this should do wonders for your enjoyment. It won't change things if you don't care for the songs anyway... There are differences, but they're subtle... But it's definitely worth the DL if you're even on the fence about the album. Check my first post in the casino about this album!
NightWoundsTime Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 I believe MoFi received the master brickwalled, so there was nothing much they could do other than press the vinyl at a low volume to give the illusion that it isn't total junk. Ted Jensen one of the studio engineers commented about it on the Metallica forums according to someone at SH. edit: I don't know what came of this- but someone said Kevin Gray's initials were in the dead wax of the regular edition vinyl, but when asked he didn't comment Found this on a forum yesterday, where someone had emailed MoFi about their vinyl master: I just heard back from our head engineer and he confirmed with me that MOFI had nothing to do with the new Metallica Lp. MOFI did not remaster it. Metallica’s web person must have just grabbed and copied text from the previous remastered Lps and pasted it in there under the new Metallica release. It’s an error on their part and we are asking them to remove it promptly. Thanks. Best Regards, MOFI Customer Service Metallicabb.com > death distortion 5lp sucks! I'm a Guitar Hero/Rock Band addict, as some of you know. I hadn't planned on buying Death Magnetic for GH3, since the mastering was so poor. Hearing the quality on the GH3 version though changed my mind and I downloaded it last night. Seriously some of the most fun tracks to ever come out for the rhythm games. They're hard but not in an overly nonsensical kind of way (for this kind of hard see "Slayer - Raining Blood" in GH3). It seems that Metallica could have actually been writing these songs for maximum fun in a music game. The album will also be playable in the next Guitar Hero game which will support drums and vocals. This might prompt me to actually buy the GH drums, (or a third party, fully compatible with both games set of drums).
