humanflyz Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 Metallica Reveal Magnetic New Album | Pitchfork Titled Death Magnetic, release will be September 12. Hopefully this one is less of a turd than St. Anger *shudders*
aardvark baguette Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 They used to be one of my favorite bands. I never would have imagined getting to a point where I barely care anymore, but that day has arrived.
postjack Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 Renton: You get old, you cannot hack it anymore, and that's it? That's your fucking theory? Sick Boy: Beautifully fucking illustrated!
en480c4 Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 I'll do my best to go in with an open mind.
aardvark baguette Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 Even if by some miracle the music is original, the mastering will no doubt blow. I'll probably buy it anyway.
laxx Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 I stopped caring about Metallica after Load and Reload (with the exception of Hero of the Day).
aardvark baguette Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 I actually thought Load was ok. But not ReLoad. Not up to the old standards, but not awful either. More blues based, and different.
n_maher Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 I can tell you one thing for damn sure, there's no way they'll get me to pay for this one without listening first. St Anger remains one of the few CD's that I listened to once and then never again. It was truly terrible.
aardvark baguette Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 I never even made it through the entire album.
laxx Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 I never heard it, I just heard it was bad so I didn't bother checking it out for myself. I might just have to now to see how bad it is.
humanflyz Posted August 5, 2008 Author Report Posted August 5, 2008 I never heard it, I just heard it was bad so I didn't bother checking it out for myself. I might just have to now to see how bad it is. That would be a mistake: don't listen to it.
Dusty Chalk Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 (edited) I heard it (St. Anger) in a store without knowing what it was, and didn't mind it as much as other people did. It is not -- contrary to popular belief -- universally despised. Just mostly so. I actually believe that Load and Another Load* were worse, music-wise. I'd love to hear what Luis could do with it. Now that would be a test of his ...erm... mettle. *as in "dropping" Edited August 5, 2008 by Dusty Chalk
aardvark baguette Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 heh. He worked wonders for The Black Album, for me Though it was from the vinyl.
Iron_Dreamer Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 How could you guys not care? I am very fascinated to see if they can make an even more awful album than what they've been doing for almost the last 20 years. The decline has been steady and linear, so I can't even imagine what this will sound like. How does Lars top the trash-can sound? By beating rocks together? And will they coin an even more moronic lyric than "frantic-tic-tock", which is might as well have been the heavy version of "mmmmbop"? See how much we have to look forward to? If nothing else, the release of a nu Metallica album is at least a chance to laugh your butt off for a few minutes solid.

aardvark baguette Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 I think my favorite metallica is from the 1st of 3 vhs tapes of the Live Shit: Binge + Purge box set. I wish I would have bothered to export the audio to digital. Then again, I haven't heard it in years, so maybe it wasnt much better than the albums.
aardvark baguette Posted August 6, 2008 Report Posted August 6, 2008 From my Gmail: Acoustic Sounds New Arrivals August 6, 2008 More Great Records Can you believe these titles? And mastered by Kevin Grey at AcousTech? We know how long you've waited for Moondance. Well, we hope these additional titles will have made your wait worthwhile. n_maher Posted August 6, 2008 Report Posted August 6, 2008 Is that good or bad? My first thought was that all the mastering in the world won't fix crappy material.
NightWoundsTime Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 The new single isn't completely awful musically, but it may be the new hotness reference, at least the download I've got. Really want to know the source for this, because it's just a massive wall of digital clipping. Replaygain regards it as 13.75 dB over its reference, peak at 1.12. The thing is it sounds good for the much quieter first half and then becomes unlistenable. I'd like to comment on the guitar solo, but just can't.
GPH Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 it may be the new hotness reference Agreed, I listened to the new track this morning and I've never heard so much clipping in a single song.
