jinp6301 Posted July 31, 2008 Report Posted July 31, 2008 Everything from the source (minus computer if you're using one) to the amps to the speakers, what would you get? Quote
grawk Posted July 31, 2008 Report Posted July 31, 2008 my speaker rig is about that. Apogee duet ($500)->luxman integrated amp($100)->home theater direct level 3 bookshelf speakers($300) natejeans speaker cables($priceless) Quote
ojnihs Posted July 31, 2008 Report Posted July 31, 2008 keep your 0404 usb and get some Adam A7s Quote
jinp6301 Posted July 31, 2008 Author Report Posted July 31, 2008 Well, I sold my Emu so I'll probably be using the SB (which is far more awesome then then EMU) Quote
ojnihs Posted July 31, 2008 Report Posted July 31, 2008 Well, I sold my Emu so I'll probably be using the SB (which is far more awesome then then EMU) boo! well i love it for me vinyl rig. plus iTunes with the Remote software for iPhone kills. Quote
jinp6301 Posted July 31, 2008 Author Report Posted July 31, 2008 PC + no iphone/itouch = no fun remote PC + squeezebox = fun remote Quote
bhd812 Posted July 31, 2008 Report Posted July 31, 2008 maybe a modded out litedac or something close (given your computer has a digi line out), and some active monitors with just corners being treated... should be under $1000... Quote
postjack Posted July 31, 2008 Report Posted July 31, 2008 I'd get a compact system. Squeezebox 3 Quote
jp11801 Posted July 31, 2008 Report Posted July 31, 2008 I'd go alon l speakers used from audiogon a $100 receiver and $300/400 dac again used of audiogon Quote
Hopstretch Posted July 31, 2008 Report Posted July 31, 2008 Ascend 170 are very nice bookshelf speakers at $350 new. They come up on Agon for a lot less. If you're using them nearfield, a $60 Sonic Impact T-Amp from Parts Express will get you to to earbleed levels. Quote
n_maher Posted July 31, 2008 Report Posted July 31, 2008 Ascend 170 are very nice bookshelf speakers at $350 new. I agree here, they're what I use in my soldering rig and sound surprisingly good near field. Quote
kpeezy Posted July 31, 2008 Report Posted July 31, 2008 I like what I have now but I would replace the NAD C320BEE and PP-1 I have with a NAD C3020. Micro Seiki MB-14 table - $135 NAD C3020 - ~$200.. I remember prices Castle Pembroke speakers - $340 $675 isn't bad and that Micro Seiki table kills the Zhaolu 2.5A I had. Quote
Dusty Chalk Posted July 31, 2008 Report Posted July 31, 2008 M-Audio Transit + some active monitors, perhaps Quad 12L's if you don't mind needing a sub (which you should get later, otherwise it will put you over), or something else that has level control (not the Mackie HR824 -- they have input sensitivity controls, which is not the same thing, although with the Mackies, then you wouldn't need a sub). Quote
jinp6301 Posted July 31, 2008 Author Report Posted July 31, 2008 the Mackie 824 Ive heard at Guitar Center were by far the best sounding monitors there (even including the dynaudios) I'm kind of confused why no one is recommending floor standing speakers. I thought they would be a better value then bookshelves Quote
aardvark baguette Posted July 31, 2008 Report Posted July 31, 2008 I've always assumed the opposite to be true; w/ floorstanders, it would seem that more money would have to go towards enclosure height. Bookshelves could have the same money go towards drivers or enclosure material. Quote
Dusty Chalk Posted July 31, 2008 Report Posted July 31, 2008 Probably because we're confused by another thread that said they were for a desktop system. Actually, Mackie came out with a tiny little version of their biggest selling mixer -- the 402VLZ3 -- that could be used as a preamp, for only US$100. Quote
JBLoudG20 Posted July 31, 2008 Report Posted July 31, 2008 So does this mean you aren't getting my MSB? Quote
jinp6301 Posted July 31, 2008 Author Report Posted July 31, 2008 ha, I have no idea right now. I just made this thread to see what people think I'll keep you updated since I still havent gotten paid for the emu Quote
JBLoudG20 Posted July 31, 2008 Report Posted July 31, 2008 I only want to know whether or not to begin the task of putting it back into my rack Quote
jinp6301 Posted July 31, 2008 Author Report Posted July 31, 2008 ahh, ummm uhhh ummmmm uhhhhh i dunno Quote
JBLoudG20 Posted July 31, 2008 Report Posted July 31, 2008 ahh, ummm uhhh ummmmm uhhhhh i dunno No big deal. If I put it back in, I charge you a $50 labor fee Quote
Hopstretch Posted July 31, 2008 Report Posted July 31, 2008 If I put it back in, I charge you a $50 labor fee That what the obstetrician said. I wish I'd taken him up on it. Quote
hYdrociTy Posted August 1, 2008 Report Posted August 1, 2008 You already have an M^3 as preamp...Fed by the SB and a [mystery dac] Thiel CS.5 and Bryston 2B-LP Quote
