postjack Posted July 26, 2008 Report Posted July 26, 2008 http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/26/arts/music/26griffin.html?_r=1&oref=slogin I only recently discovered his music. He's great.
barmar46 Posted July 26, 2008 Report Posted July 26, 2008 Thanks for the notice, Jack. He had just played at the Jazz Showcase-a great historical Chicago jazz venue. Rasann Roland Kirk and Sun Ra used to tear it up there in the late '60s. A guy name Joe Segal owned it. I didn't even know it was still around. There really were some great Chicago jazz legends. Johnny Griffin among them. Everybody dies but loosing artists always seems such a strike at life.
Augsburger Posted July 27, 2008 Report Posted July 27, 2008 I too was just discovering his music. A great loss to good music fans. RIP JG.
