mypasswordis Posted August 16, 2010 Report Posted August 16, 2010 RIP Myron. Nice pics, all. Jin makes me curious about shooting film...
Salt Peanuts Posted August 16, 2010 Report Posted August 16, 2010 Thanks! What would the equivalent be for a crop sensor? A 35mm prime? Yeah, 35mm on Canon crop sensor works out to 56mm. I've got a Canon 35mm f/2 and I really like the lens - but f/1.4 would be great (I just don't have $1400 for 35mm L lens).
falkon Posted August 16, 2010 Report Posted August 16, 2010 So there's a lot of rumors running around about an update to one of the inexpensive primes (either 35mm 1.8 or 50mm 1.4) in September/October. I'd wait for that if you're using a Canon body. Also Viveza 2 came out recently and I gave it a try. It's very handy and quick to add dynamic contrast/color saturation.
falkon Posted August 16, 2010 Report Posted August 16, 2010 Canon XTi 50mm f/1.8 I with Picasa's resizing didn't suck.
HeadphoneAddict Posted August 16, 2010 Report Posted August 16, 2010 Some photos of Pikes Peak taken from above Woodland Park on the Rampart Range Road. The first is my new desktop background, which I though was cool because the peak had a halo cloud going around it. Salt Peanuts Posted August 16, 2010 Report Posted August 16, 2010 (edited) So there's a lot of rumors running around about an update to one of the inexpensive primes (either 35mm 1.8 or 50mm 1.4) in September/October. I'd wait for that if you're using a Canon body. I'm not buying a new lens anytime soon, except perhaps a nifty fifty. Unless, of course, the rumored new 35mm actually comes out and is head and shoulders better than the 35mm f/2 (and keep the same cost or be cheaper, like the Nikon 35mm f/1.. falkon Posted August 16, 2010 Report Posted August 16, 2010 I think it will be around the same cost and much better since the 35mm f/2 is so old. I doubt it'll be in the same range as the the Nikon, though. Unless, like the Nikon, it's APS-C only (EF-S).
VPI Posted August 16, 2010 Report Posted August 16, 2010 A few more with a different lens and some with flash.
Salt Peanuts Posted August 16, 2010 Report Posted August 16, 2010 Nice dragonfly shot, Jeff. I've been meaning to take pics of them myself since our yard appears to be overrun by them, though they're never around when I go out. BTW, what lens and what plant is that on the last pic?

I doubt it'll be in the same range as the the Nikon, though. Unless, like the Nikon, it's APS-C only (EF-S). For my use, I've got no problem with 35mm f/2's performance (though a quiet USM focusing would be a plus). As for age, they're all old - the last non-macro or non-L prime was released in '95. ooh, new cheap prime. i guess i should hold off buying any lenses for now It still won't be cheap enough, methinks (probably in $400 and up range).
jinp6301 Posted August 16, 2010 Report Posted August 16, 2010 If its as versatile as the 50mm 1.4 for a full frame, $400 might not be that bad (compared to other lenses)
Nebby Posted August 16, 2010 Report Posted August 16, 2010 I had rented the 35mm 1.4 for the weekend to take photos of the kendo tournament. Great lens but that price tag hurts

VPI Posted August 17, 2010 Report Posted August 17, 2010 BTW, what lens and what plant is that on the last pic? I believe that is a Yucca Plant. The lens was the 35 f1.4L I believe but i tried several so I may be off there.
Voltron Posted August 17, 2010 Report Posted August 17, 2010 I believe that is a Yucca Plant. Common deflection used by poppy growers. Nice pics, Jeff. Nice pic of the kid, Jin.
falkon Posted August 17, 2010 Report Posted August 17, 2010 I believe that is a Yucca Plant. The lens was the 35 f1.4L I believe but i tried several so I may be off there. It was at 55mm f/14 so I'm guessing that 24-70mm again.
HeadphoneAddict Posted August 17, 2010 Report Posted August 17, 2010 Any thoughts about the iPhone photos I posted the other day? I was wondering what you guys thought about the composition or framing, despite the sucky camera. The photos are unedited, and I might try to buy an app that could enhance them a bit.
Uncle Erik Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 Thought I'd put a few up of the kids. These were taken on Mother's Day in Descanso Gardens:
Salt Peanuts Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 Couple shots from the weekend. I was using 85 1.8 at/close to its MFD and I kept nudging myself ever so closer than the MFD, resulting in OOF shots. Below are two survivors.
Currawong Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 Nice one Uncle Erik. I had to grab the camera quickly before she ripped the improvised bandana off her head, but, ya know...such random flashes of inspiration and all that don't make for great photos, but still ...
digger945 Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 omg you are so blessed Amos what a doll she is.
