EdipisReks1
Haha, I used to go to Cord: good shop! Anybody have experience with Leica service? Bad dust blobs at f/5.6-8 on the Q (didn’t notice it until yesterday, I’ve only shot wide open or stopped pretty far down). I think it can be serviced in NJ, and doesn’t have to go to Germany, but I have no idea of what time frame to expect. The service agreement says no more than 6 weeks after estimate is made, but I’d love to have an idea of how long it will take for them to get to the estimate. Good thing I bought that D610, but I’m going to really miss the Q while it’s gone.
blessingx
Probably worth searching over at the Leica Forum. Different times and costs over the years. https://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/301128-dust-on-sensor-beware-of-the-cost/
EdipisReks1
Looks like I’m looking at $200, from what I’ve seen. Seller gave me a discount due to the issue which should cover it. I just hope it doesn’t take months!

EdipisReks1
Thanks! I’ll contact and see if it’s cheaper than Leica themselves. It’s not under warranty anymore, of course, so as long as it’s competently serviced I’m happy with whomever does the work.
EdipisReks1
Off the D610 with a 28 f/2.8. Street shot. Slightly modified in light room. I like these shots. You gotta get closer with a 28. Edited March 14 by EdipisReks1
EdipisReks1
I checked prices, and I need to be more judicious with my film shots: it’s more than a dollar every time I hit the shutter. I had mentally been thinking more like 50 cents, as I didn’t realize development and scanning was $20+, no prints. I remember doing one hour development (I worked as a photo developer in high school and college) with 4” prints for $6, but of course that was in 1999! dsavitsk
An interesting take on the fall of Kodak. Not new, but not a perspective I'd seen before. https://www.cam.ac.uk/research/news/the-rise-and-fall-of-kodaks-moment According to Kamal: “The people taking pictures suddenly changed, from 60% women to 70% men. Kodak didn't know how to market to men. But even if they could get them to buy, they didn't want to, because men don't print. Unlike women, they hadn't been socialised in the role of family archivist." 2
EdipisReks1
That’s really interesting! As an aside, I have a new Flickr, if anybody is interested. I don’t post a lot, just the ones I find most interesting. Shot with the D610 with f/2.8 28mm today. I have a 20-35 f/2.8 coming, which I think will be a good lens. Miss the Q, though. It arrives at Leica Monday. Edited March 17 by EdipisReks1
EdipisReks1
Straight out of camera. Serious corner fall off with the f/2.8 28mm G lens. Can't say I'm mad. Edited March 17 by EdipisReks1
EdipisReks1
I received the 20-35 F/2.8 AF. I’m sort of in love with this lens. I don’t have a good photo to share, but I feel like it’s much sharper at 35 than my old 35mm f/1.8 ever was. Of course this is a “pro” lens, whereas the 35 (and my 28 and 50, for that matter) wasn’t (aren’t). Edited March 20 by EdipisReks1
EdipisReks1
Picked up an excellent condition F100 with 35 f/2 for less than the lens goes for. I wanted both the camera and lens this time, but mostly the lens. The f100 will replace my N8008, once I have used the roll up in the 8008. Also bidding on expired 35mm film, because why not spend more money on film.

swt61
^ I think you misunderstood Mike. That is a small portion of Ric's collection that he took to the event. 😋 1

EdipisReks1
Bought some Kentmere 400 120 for the Yashicaflex I drunkenly ordered from Japan, last night. At least I got one in near mint (supposedly truly rated; its from a big eBay seller), working, with original case and lens hood. 1955 manu date. It was only $120, so whatever: I wanted a medium format. Edited March 24 by EdipisReks1
EdipisReks1
Whelp, Leica wants to replace the sensor and lens, and wants $1600. I guess I’ll just have to keep photoshopping out crap from photos stopped down below 16, which I almost never do, and certainly won't with a Summilux 1.7: I discovered the dust by accident. I’m hoping that, in taking the camera apart to observe condition, that they wiped down the sensor, which is all I wanted to be done. EdipisReks1
I'm not even mad. This is like dealing with Rolex or Montblanc. They wanted to replace anything that showed wear, including the leatherette covering, which does *not* need replacing. I have found a third party to clean the sensor, if it arrives still dirty (I bet I just got a sensor cleaning for free).
Torpedo
That's why they're considered luxury brands. Luxury is all about spending money and getting new bling in exchange.
EdipisReks1
It’s just frustrating that they wouldn’t even consider just cleaning the sensor. I’m 99 percent sure that the sensor is just dirty. Edited March 25 by EdipisReks1
EdipisReks1
Found a place in California that’ll clean it with a week turnaround for $200. All will be well when it ends well, just have to get the camera back from Leica.
