VPI Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 I think it was part rage and part the heat lamp sitting next to him.
VPI Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 Damn, dude. That might be the best pic you've posted ...ever. Thanks, I was going to leave it out due to the redness and the fact that it was shot through a chain-link fence.
swt61 Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 Damn Jeff! Those are incredible. That Hyacinth Macaw is just stunning.
Salt Peanuts Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 Great pics, Jeff! I am really liking Smugmug so far. I have set up a pro account and bought a domain name to match to make it look more official. I don't intend to sell any but I really just wanted to go through the process of setting it up. I set up Vinylspinner Photography I ended up going with a power account as I didn't need all the bells and whistles of pro account but still wanted to changes some things around. I also repurposed for it a domain name that I wasn't using anymore. My family likes the Smugmug setup a lot better than Flickr. Here's what I've setup so far - Haj & D Photography | SmugMug
VPI Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 Very Nice. I need to do some work on mine. Good to see the Head-Case Glencairn getting some modeling time in your household.
jinp6301 Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 Some S95 pics from tonight. the fake tilt shift looks pretty interesting. totally fake looking (due to you can see where the blurring starts and stops) but still pretty cool
Salt Peanuts Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 Very Nice. I need to do some work on mine. Good to see the Head-Case Glencairn getting some modeling time in your household. Thanks. I keep fiddling with mine, though I should stop doing that as I tend to break one thing while changing something else. Yes, the Glencairn glass gets used a lot around here, though usually only for its intended purpose.
guzziguy Posted December 5, 2010 Report Posted December 5, 2010 Nice pictures. The beak of the White-Fronted Amazon (first pic) could use some serious grooming.
penger Posted December 5, 2010 Report Posted December 5, 2010 Some randoms from a trip to Japan with my mom... buncha sets on my flickr (link)
Salt Peanuts Posted December 5, 2010 Report Posted December 5, 2010 Hey VPI, what lens are you using? Looking at EXIF info, my guess is 70-200 f/2.8 with a 1.4x extender.
VPI Posted December 5, 2010 Report Posted December 5, 2010 Looking at EXIF info, my guess is 70-200 f/2.8 with a 1.4x extender. Correct. Most shot at a fairly high ISO. The birds were around 2000 I believe.
guzziguy Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 How exactly does one groom a beak? My vet uses a Dremel tool. I've seen others use an emery board or sand paper. When she'll cooperate, I'll get a picture of my White-Fronted Amazon's beak so you can see the difference.
Salt Peanuts Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 I don't know anyone here geotags their photos, but here's an iPhone app for that. I may try it it out for kicks. gps4cam | the geotag app for iPhone.
crappyjones123 Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 suggestions for improvement would be mighty nice having been playing around with the s95 for about an hour now. dont know what a lot of the things mean but i am getting the hang of what each thing does or how lowering one value fucks shit up. anyhow, heres the best i came up with in the last hour.
Sherwood Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 That's not a bad shot, CJ. Usually, when you take a high ISO long exposure shot like that, you get a lot of noise. I thought you had some fringing on a part of the tube, but it looks like it's a green reflection. You're either forcing the ISO down, or the S95 is a very good camera. probably some of both.

Sherwood Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 f/2, 15 sec, ISO 500 I could have just read the EXIF data, of course.
Salt Peanuts Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 I could have just read the EXIF data, of course. I've got a Safari extension for it so that helps.
crappyjones123 Posted December 12, 2010 Report Posted December 12, 2010 high iso pictures were too bright. too low came out too dark. i kept messing around with 400, 500, and 640. the green light is actually from the router sitting right below the tube. i tried to kill every single light in the room but couldnt be bothered beyond just flipping the light switch for the over head lights heh. the slight blue (not purple, purple was the tube) tint was actually from my mouse which i had already covered with a sheet of paper. but i guess with an exposure that long, whatever little light is there gets sucked in?
