n_maher Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 who the fuck cares if the guy says srsly instead of seriously and if the guy didnt know where the fucking italics are? Don't make me silence your fart.
jinp6301 Posted September 25, 2008 Author Report Posted September 25, 2008 the quiet fart - silent and deadly like a ninja
ericj Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 fwiw i was here almost a year ago, but left when i discovered the old software wouldn't allow me to edit posts. srsly.
Voltron Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 fwiw i was here almost a year ago, but left when i discovered the old software wouldn't allow me to edit posts. srsly. You seriously still cannot edit posts after 5 minutes or some amount of time, which was the same on the old software. If you cannot handle it, then I guess that's that.
n_maher Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 like a dead ninjaFTFY fwiw i was here almost a year ago, but left when i discovered the old software wouldn't allow me to edit posts. srsly. It has been forum policy for as long as I can remember to have a very short edit window. I'm srsly sorry you don't like that.
en480c4 Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 I'm srsly sorry you don't like that. I'm not. If you don't like it, GTFO. Srsly.
spritzer Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 If you need to edit something like links in old posts then contact the mods but otherwise we must own up to our crap...
ericj Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 FTFY It has been forum policy for as long as I can remember to have a very short edit window. I'm srsly sorry you don't like that. It will seriously limit my inclination to post here.
en480c4 Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 It will seriously limit my inclination to post here. kthnxbye!!1one
ericj Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 kthnxbye!!1one Hey, you know, if head-case doesn't value my contribution, i won't make it. I can't fathom the rationale for the policy, and it inconveniences me. And i have other options.
deepak Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 Hey, you know, if head-case doesn't value my contribution, i won't make it. I can't fathom the rationale for the policy, and it inconveniences me. And i have other options. It's because sovkiller showed up, posted a bunch of nonsense then edited all his posts out and left. We don't have any plans to change the edit time window. I'd prefer to keep this on electrostat discussion, here is the thread on the edit time limit. And the ortho thread.
en480c4 Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 The rationale is easy... The other site was rampant with weasels starting fights, making claims and going back and editing things out. Mods included. It happened once here and the policy was made. It works very well.
n_maher Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 I can't fathom the rationale for the policy, and it inconveniences me. And i have other options. And I'm the flip side, I can't really see why it'd make a bit of difference. What, exactly is it that you're wanting to edit? Also, in cases where it has made sense to edit posts moderators such as myself have been happy to help folks out. There's still limited enough traffic here that we can manage it and it makes people (well, some people) think a bit before they spout off.
ericj Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 And I'm the flip side, I can't really see why it'd make a bit of difference. What, exactly is it that you're wanting to edit? The way i function in this hobby is mainly exploratory and investigative. Occasionally i realize that i've posted something that later turned out not to be entirely true. Sometimes i find out i was barking up the wrong tree, or i misinterpreted something somebody else told me, or I'm just plain mistaken. At the other fora, I can just go back and edit. Even if i could only append to the same post, that would be ok with me. Not being able to make a change after a short window makes me wary of discussing theory or discovery here. So i won't.
grawk Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 you could reply and say "oops, I was wrong, here's the right info", and then you're not pretending you didn't fuck up. Your choice. Go the fuck away, or accept that everyone will know you're not perfect.
n_maher Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 Not being able to make a change after a short window makes me wary of discussing theory or discovery here. I think you're worrying over being wrong, which is nonsense in my book. Or maybe it's just that I don't have a fear of being wrong?
laxx Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 The only time I think someone should be able to edit their posts is the FS section. Other than that, there's no reason to edit a post after even 1 minute (just to correct spelling errors or whatever).
GPH Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 Hey, you know, if head-case doesn't value my contribution, i won't make it. I can't fathom the rationale for the policy, and it inconveniences me. And i have other options. The only rule here is "don't be an asshat". You just broke it with that post.
ericj Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 The only rule here is "don't be an asshat". You just broke it with that post. Hey, so did you. This is neat.
GPH Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 Hey, so did you. This is neat. Hey, I'm not the one who came here and threatened not to post because I didn't like the rules. That came out as pompous to me so I called it. In fact, I value your contribution on Head-fi, but I don't understand the attitude you took in the last few posts here.
