Dusty Chalk Posted May 10, 2006 Report Posted May 10, 2006 Back to Stax: Omega II bass is in the upper registers, at least I haven't really heard it go low using 007t amp. The Omega II creates a bass illusion with that upper bass hump, but doesn't really deliver the goods. HE60 and HE90 both have a more convincing deep bass. Come to think of it, the Lambda Pro actually does deep bass better than Omega II.When did you get an Omega II? Or are you referring to Dave's? I thought you had 404's. Shit, now I'm going to have to break out my Stax setup...I coulda sworn I heard deep bass.
ojnihs Posted May 10, 2006 Report Posted May 10, 2006 fuck I really have to hear a Stax setup sometime soon, I'm getting pretty damn curious as to how they sound
hirsch Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 When did you get an Omega II? Or are you referring to Dave's? I thought you had 404's. Shit, now I'm going to have to break out my Stax setup...I coulda sworn I heard deep bass. Referring to Dave's, which were Brian's, Tom's, and the other two or three sets I've heard. I used to have 404's, never liked them all that much, and sold them. I now have Lambda Pros, which IMO are a better headphone than the 404. I still like the Orpheii.
mjg Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 Check your math. 1.1447^3 is approx. 1.5, dorklatch. EDIT: You typed 1.447 into your calculator, didn't you? There's a 1 after the decimal point. duhhr. i guess your right, and i'm an idiot once again. ^
Arch Hammer Posted May 28, 2006 Report Posted May 28, 2006 hirsch, i curse you for not liking the 404s! expect a burning during urination to follow....
tyre Posted May 28, 2006 Report Posted May 28, 2006 If I didn't already have a mid-range Grado I would've bought the HF-1 when it first came out, but I do which makes buying one redundant, so I didn't. As for the whiners on Head-fi, my ignore list over there, better known as "the shitlist", has been growing at a pretty good clip lately. The whining & crying is fucking headache inducing, it's almost as bad as dealing with a woman with PMS. "Waaahhh! I want an HF-1 but why does it cost so much?" "Waaahhhh!!! You shouldn't be allowed to profit on an HF-1 sale!" "Waaaahhhh!!!!" Just fucking shut up already. Argh, I hate to start out my first Headcase post talking about this topic... I passed on the opportunity to buy The HF-1's because they never really appealed to me in the first place. They seemed sort of cheesy to me with the mix-matched wood and plastic. I'd rather have a pair of Grados made entirely of one material or the other. Still it bothers me that so many reputable members are so non-chalant about other people flipping their headphones for a big fat fucking profit even though these headphones only came out a few months ago. I personally think it's rather lame. If I had a pair of HF-1's, you can be sure that I would sell them for less than or equal to what I bought them for.
grawk Posted May 28, 2006 Report Posted May 28, 2006 It's the high prices that makes it so more people can hear them. I know it sounds counter to common sense, but it helps STOP hoarding. Someone has a pair of HF1s they bought on a whim. They think, wtf, $200, I'll hold on to them. Someone else REALLY wants to hear them, but no one is willing, because they're special, and not really replaceable. But then someone offers $400. That's a lot of beer and your money back, so wtf, I'll sell em. Bingo, someone gets to hear cans that were otherwise unavailable.
Arch Hammer Posted May 28, 2006 Report Posted May 28, 2006 tyre, or from the tone of your first post, maybe you should be called "tyra" i dont think you are going to make many friends by starting out your career here by railing against people who decide to make a profit on a pair of headphones. if you were not aware, i will clue you in, this is The United States of America. and as such, this is a free market, capitalist society that we live in, and thank the Lord for that. whiners like yourself are so prevalent these days that i fear for the future of this country, really. welcome to head-case, you better grow some thick skin! your friend, paul ooh, a quick edit, since you were willing to admit that you would sell your pair of hf1's for equal or less than what you would have paid for them, i just have to ask, could you please make a list of your gear. i am in need of some things and since you are so generous and not interested in making profits, and in fact willing to take losses, i would really like to know what you have so i can start sending you some offers. thanks again...
TheSloth Posted May 28, 2006 Report Posted May 28, 2006 To be honest, when I sold my first K701's, I could have got a pair of HF1's + cash in a trade and am angry I didn't do it. Why? Because, yes, horrible person that I am I would have sold them at market value. That is my right, and how have I done someone a disservice by selling something at a price that they are willing to pay? I'm not forcing them to buy it - I get my cash, and they get the headphone of their dreams. Why are people still whining about this? John Grado did Head-Fi a favour? Puuhlease! He made more profit in the first week of HF-1's than he probably does in a normal month. He saw a markting opportunity and siezed it. Same for TTVJ. But if a head-fi'er does exactly the same thing with the exact same product they are evil?

Life isn't always fair.
Arch Hammer Posted May 28, 2006 Report Posted May 28, 2006 thankyou mjg and sloth for helping me to see that iam not in fact nuts for thinking this way! btw, mjg, do pretzels really make the world go pretzel? i have it on good authority that this is bunk....

Arch Hammer Posted May 28, 2006 Report Posted May 28, 2006 nah, in trying to destroy me i would be forced to eat them in all their tasty goodness. have a pretzel day, pretzel
tiberian Posted May 28, 2006 Report Posted May 28, 2006 Still it bothers me that so many reputable members are so non-chalant about other people flipping their headphones for a big fat fucking profit even though these headphones only came out a few months ago.when did headfi turn into a charity? head-fi is all about business, so obvious that its not even funny. you deserve to get ripped off if you think otherwise.
Arch Hammer Posted May 28, 2006 Report Posted May 28, 2006 i hope tyra plans on responding to my request for some gear. with such generous people out there who are willing to give up things at a loss i am hoping that i can get some good deals.
en480c4 Posted May 28, 2006 Report Posted May 28, 2006 I'm just glad people aren't bitching any more that modding them is a crime against humanity. That annoyed me far more than the people bitching about not getting a pair.
Salt Peanuts Posted May 29, 2006 Report Posted May 29, 2006 As I've stated earlier, I've sold my pair. I've, in fact, sold them for a modest profit, and I'd do it again without hesitation to get me what the market can fetch me for a pair. If anyone had offered me $400 for them while I still had my pair, I'd have sold them in a heart beat.
Yikes Posted May 29, 2006 Report Posted May 29, 2006 As I've stated earlier, I've sold my pair. If anyone had offered me $400 for them while I still had my pair, I'd have sold them in a heart beat. You headphone profiteering whore! You?re gonna burn in headphone hell for making a profit and abusing the headphone community at large by selling John Grados magnanimous product offering. Modding the HF-1?s is akin to painting a mustache on the Mona Lisa. Err? maybe not
tyre Posted May 29, 2006 Report Posted May 29, 2006 tyre, or from the tone of your first post, maybe you should be called "tyra" Wow, brilliant. i dont think you are going to make many friends by starting out your career here by railing against people who decide to make a profit on a pair of headphones. Err, it's not like I'm the first person to do so. Edwood and n_maher, which are both well-known and respected guys, have both said in head-fi posts that they disagree with the resale of the HF-1 for profit. if you were not aware, i will clue you in, this is The United States of America. and as such, this is a free market, capitalist society that we live in, and thank the Lord for that. whiners like yourself are so prevalent these days that i fear for the future of this country, really. Lol. I bet you're a republican eh? I just think that it's lame to buy a pair of headphones on head-fi (which includes the HF-1 since they were only available to members), and then resell them to another member for the highest price possible. Outside of head-fi it doesn't really matter what people do. All I'm saying is that if you're intent is to maximize profit, gtfo and go to ebay or audiogon.
PFKMan23 Posted May 29, 2006 Report Posted May 29, 2006 What the hell do political affiliations have to do with anything? The Democrats (and any major political affiliations) all have business interestes attached to them. The question I would ask is, how does it affect you? And if you weren't aware profiteering goes on all the time on Head Fi. So this whole profiteering can't really just be applied to the HF-1s, because it goes on all the time. And what about people who do list them on Ebay? They get ripped on too. As far as TTVJ and John Grado goes, the HF-1s were one of the best publicity moves ever.
n_maher Posted May 29, 2006 Report Posted May 29, 2006 Err, it's not like I'm the first person to do so. Edwood and n_maher, which are both well-known and respected guys, have both said in head-fi posts that they disagree with the resale of the HF-1 for profit. Clarification, there's only one real instance where I disagreed with the sale of HF-1s for profit, it was that asshole who bought them one day for $400, and immediately cried hard times and listed them for $600. The more time that passses the less I could care, if there's some idiot out there who wants to spend $600 on a pair of headphones that at best is worth half that who am I to stand in their way?
Arch Hammer Posted May 29, 2006 Report Posted May 29, 2006 tyra, i will ignore the political affiliation argument because it was so blatantly stupid its not worth my time. however, you still fail to understand that nobody forced anyone to do these things, meaning nobody forced the seller to sell and nobody forced they buyer to buy. you see in this, the greatest country in the world we are allowed to do things like make choices to buy and sell. why you poor poor whiney beotches are still hung up the whole reselling of those ever so top of the line and limited (ooohhhhhh) headphones just floors me. and why im such and idiot to be pointing these things to referenced whiners is amazing in itself, i should be watching porn or doing something productive, like picking my nose.... yeah, ill admit, the tyra remark wasnt my best. but thankyou for classifying it as "brilliant." you are too kind. remember, if you have any gear that you want to sell at a loss/less than cost etc. make sure you pm me immediately. im looking for a new amp for my 404s, but im not willing to pay any of those naughty "profiteers," so i figure since you seem so kind, you may be the one i should be buying from..... Have a great Memorial Day. Never Forget!
Dusty Chalk Posted May 29, 2006 Report Posted May 29, 2006 I just think that it's lame to buy a pair of headphones ...and then resell them to another member for the highest price possible.Theoretical question (based in fact): The K1000's went for US$379 at one point in recent history. Are you saying that no-one should sell K1000's for more than US$379? You're cracked. They used to be available for US$200, but are no longer available for that price. In fact, one cannot get them new anywhere. So the current price is whatever someone is willing to pay for them.btw, mjg, do pretzels really make the world go pretzel? i have it on good authority that this is bunk....I am not Marc, but allow me to answer this: yes. Yes they do.
PsychoZX Posted May 29, 2006 Report Posted May 29, 2006 That annoyed me far more than the people bitching about not getting a pair. Same here. So did the comments from people saying that there is no way the Headphile modded HF-1s could even compete with the RS1s. Yet they never heard em.
aerius Posted May 30, 2006 Report Posted May 30, 2006 Because if no one is making a profit off HF-1's on Head-fi, then we can pretend everything is kosher and dance in the flowery fields with pink unicorns, or something like that. Nevermind that the HF-1's will still be sold on ebay, audiogon, and everywhere else for $400 or whatever the market will support, but hey, if it's not happening on Head-fi then the delusional whiny fucknuts can claim some kind of "moral victory" for the good of the headphone community or something like that. Which is to say it's a load of crock. Tell you what, if you don't like the fact that people are making profits off HF-1 sales, you can always close your eyes, plug your ears, and scream "la-la-la-la-la-la-la I can't hear you it's not happening!", and don't forget to tighten the foil hat around your skull. And if that doesn't work you can always dive headfirst off a highway overpass, you'll never have to worry about HF-1 profiteering again, and we won't have to put up with your endless whining and crying.
