Dusty Chalk
Are there any ribbon based headphones? I found this -- anyone know if anything came of this (yes, I have already emailed them, they haven't had a chance to respond yet)? I also found this thread on DIY Audio, but...well, you read it... Smeggy
The only ribbon headphones I've ever known that were a production model was the Wharfedale Isodynamic. It was unlike any other ortho in that it was an etched square crrugated ribbon affixed at two ends. The magnets were arcs and the ribbon flapped in the middle of them. Other than those, can't think of any. They were designed in 1973 and I bought mine in '76. This is what setmenu was basing his on as he owns one of the few ribbon iso's left in the universe. jinp6301
So you've heard one? How do they sound?
Smeggy
It's been over 30 years since I had mine so recollections are vague at best. They were the best phones I could afford at the time. I did like the sound though. I imagine a modern set could be pretty amazing. The technology is proven but was never adopted by anyone else I'm aware of. Smeggy
That's my babies! Good luck finding a set, I've been looking forever. To the best of my limited knowledge there has never been a set show up anywhere. They were cheap as horseshit when they were new and set the trend in clinical white hi-fi.
