luvdunhill Posted July 17, 2008 Author Report Posted July 17, 2008 The 6016 is $36.97 in natural, $41.95 in black plus shipping.
n_maher Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 The 6016 is $36.97 in natural, $41.95 in black plus shipping. Well, that would actually suggest that their pricing is still the same.
luvdunhill Posted July 18, 2008 Author Report Posted July 18, 2008 I just bought a large lot of 0.015uF Russian FT-1 teflon caps to use to bypass the output caps. I'll include these with those who are interested in the kit (basic or no-so-basic).
DigiPete Posted July 21, 2008 Report Posted July 21, 2008 Folks, I called up Par Metals and got the following price quote on a 20 series case 12"x12"x2" tall 0.18" thick aluminum face plate clear Anodized, and grey-painted body, coutersunk screws all around. $62.50 ea Same case but 3" tall $67.xx ea I didn't catch what she said after 67... This should fit both boards flat, and one or two toroids as well. Let me know if anyone is interested. Cheers, Pete
Pars Posted July 21, 2008 Report Posted July 21, 2008 From what I've been told, you don't want the painted anything from Par Metals... go anodized entire case. Then again, I'm an observer here, so...
DigiPete Posted July 22, 2008 Report Posted July 22, 2008 Their anodizing is awful too. The clear anodized faceplates are fine. The black anodize of the body is rough textured and gets marked up easy. They should clear coat it.
n_maher Posted July 22, 2008 Report Posted July 22, 2008 I actually am ok with Par's black painted finish, it's somewhat texture but otherwise holds up a hell of a lot better than their anodizing. Also, their clear anodized stuff holds up much better than the black anodized finish.
swt61 Posted July 22, 2008 Report Posted July 22, 2008 I think I'm gonna give the case Marc found a try. I can't even count the negative posts about Par Metal cases. Plus I like the way the side plates extend, it creates a perfect recess for a wooden faceplate.
bhjazz Posted July 22, 2008 Report Posted July 22, 2008 So I'm only about two weeks late, but add IC + 1 set. Blame Trevor for my inability to keep up.
DigiPete Posted July 22, 2008 Report Posted July 22, 2008 I'm calling in my Par Metal case order tomorrow. If anyone is interested PM me so we can work out the details.
luvdunhill Posted July 22, 2008 Author Report Posted July 22, 2008 So I'm only about two weeks late, but add IC + 1 set. Blame Trevor for my inability to keep up. if you're interested in the boards, I can give you contact information on who to talk with, but the order has been placed so you'll have to fend for yourself in terms of overseas shipping. Orders for the toroids and cases have been placed, so you're on your own there. You can benefit for the rest of the group buys, just let me know.
luvdunhill Posted July 22, 2008 Author Report Posted July 22, 2008 here are the parts I'm planning on offering from Digikey. Let me know what you guys think, as I'd like to get this ready to go once the boards arrive. Please let me know of your interest here or via PM: C10 (2) P3874-ND (was P3124-ND) 0.120uF C11 (2) P3876-ND (was P3154-ND) 0.150uF C12 (2) P3864-ND (was P3473-ND) 0.047uF C13 (2) P3884-ND (was P3334-ND) 0.330uF C4,6 (4) P3154-ND heat sink (2) HS133-ND Q2-Q5,Q12 (10) ZTX450-ND Q1 (2) IRF9610PBF-ND D1 (2) 1N5346BRLGOSCT-ND R2,3 (4) P4.7W-3BK-ND$2.38 / 5 bridge (2) 26MB10A-ND fuse (1) 486-1234-ND IEC (1) 486-1084-ND SIP sockets (12) A461-ND (for loading resistors and capacitors) jumper blocks (12) ED7264-ND (for loading resistors and capacitors) jumpers (6) A26228-ND (for loading resistors and capacitors) standoffs (0/4) 1825K-ND (2.5" only for those stacking boards) standoffs (4/8) 8414K-ND (4 for those stacking boards, 8 for others) if you are in need of extra capacitors for capacitive loading, please let me know. Total for above is $78.50. The difference in standoffs is about a wash, and one price simplifies things. This doesn't include shipping (but it does include sales tax), but we can settle up on that later. Then we have 2 options for caps: C1,2,3,PSU ( P6946-ND C5,7,8,15 ( P11249-ND
Total for this option is $75. Then the other option for those looking to cut some corners (less capacitance, default part recommendations from the guide).
C1,C2,C3 (6) P6939-ND C5,7,8,15 ( P5557-ND Total is $38. This leaves the JFETs, coupling capacitors, capacitor clamps for unregulated PSU cap, RCA jacks, earth binding post, and resistors.
grawk Posted July 22, 2008 Report Posted July 22, 2008 So $153.50 for your recommendations for this part of the order? Would this complete the parts needed?

Marc I'm just a pretty face (hey it's my delusion!), but you know that I'm wanting a premium build. Do you want some form of payment from me now, or should we wait until the weekend and discuss it in person?
swt61 Posted July 22, 2008 Report Posted July 22, 2008 Nice. I'm not too familiar with the Marantz, but the Sony sure sounds like a nice piece of kit.
grawk Posted July 22, 2008 Report Posted July 22, 2008 The marantz was their top of the line DD from 1975. Curved tonearm. Was my dad's, he bought it new, and it even still has the "Genuine Wlanut Wood Veneer" sticker on it . The sony is very nice.

This leaves the JFETs, coupling capacitors, capacitor clamps for unregulated PSU cap, RCA jacks, earth binding post, and resistors. Great work Marc! I have a few observations/questions. What unregulated psu clamps/cap are you referring to (the 10k uf caps?? Aren't those mounted on the pcb?). How would using the stock 10k and 3.3kuf caps be cutting corners? Is there evidence that more capacitance is needed here/beneficial... based on rules of thumb, or precedent from other similar projects? Any downsides to putting in bigger psu filter caps? Can we include a nice power indicator led or two? Blue or violet color Three values of loading resistors/caps (at least the most popular ones 1k, 47k, other? 0pf, 100pf, other?) along with selector switch(es) for that purpose? Could be done manually in the box if necessary. Just a thought. Is the diode bridge a soft recovery type? Can it be? Does it matter? Will any of the 1.5" tall heatsinks fit/work? Trying to fit into a 2" tall case, if feasible. Same comment for the large caps. Cheers Pete
DigiPete Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 No blue or violet leds for me, thanks Don't tell me you want orange
Dusty Chalk Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 I believe the terminology in LED jargon is "amber".
grawk Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 red or amber or orange, mounted on the board, not on the case, so I can only see looking through vent holes
