zippy2001 Posted August 19, 2009 Report Posted August 19, 2009 while I am interested in the remasters if they sound like Let It Be (Naked) or Love then the LPs will still be better. Love had bette separation but the tone was all wrong, while I do not have the greatest collection of rare stuff I'll take the purple chicks (mp3s) over most of the stuff I have heard, yeah its 320 kps but you for many songs you get the separate track of the 4 track for Pepper and Revolver and can remix if you like. I just dropped Pepper (red mono Japan) to 24/96 and so far it is my favorite. That japanese vinyl is super quiet but the LP master job could have been warmer. Probably done on SS gear in 86. I'm interested in the vinyl versions, especially since they went with RTI over Rainbo. But I need to find some space for my turntable at the moment.
LFF Posted August 19, 2009 Report Posted August 19, 2009 If anyone had a copy of the remasters before they are supposed to, it would definitely not be taken lightly. Security has always been extremely tight with anything related to the Beatles, extreme security measures such as video cameras everywhere and armed guards, etc. And I'm sure this will be no exception. I agree but with the internet around you just never know. I would assume they have them in a vault guarded by guards who guard those guards and are supervised by cameras who in turn are kept in check by other guards. Maybe they are all working together to export the remasters to Argentina.

How did the 4 tracks get out in the world then? I've heard the separate mix tracks for both pepper and revolver?
LFF Posted August 19, 2009 Report Posted August 19, 2009 How did the 4 tracks get out in the world then? I've heard the separate mix tracks for both pepper and revolver? Through the internet. That's why you never know. You should hear the mix tracks for the White Album! It's tough but leaks do happen. In this particular case, I can't call it yet. EDIT: In all honesty, I thought at least a full album would have leaked about a month ago. No news on a complete album yet though.

Who knows, it may have been through Rock Band. I've been through the Beatles Anthology release where they had the master tapes flown from the UK to America in a handcuffed briefcase, the workers in the warehouse had to wear sweats (so they couldn't sneak out any copies), and guards escorting the trucks to the customers.

WOW! Just wow! Hell, if I owned them, I'd probably be much more protective.

Hopstretch Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 I hate Tone Audio That's as may be. But I want the mono box set now and Amazon is apparently sold out. I presume they'll be shipping some to actual physical retailers, too?
tyrion Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 I wonder if my local BN has it. I may need to take a ride over tomorrow. Or whenever it's released.
Salt Peanuts Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 (edited) I'm kicking myself for neglecting to pre-order the mono box set, too. elusivedics.com supposedly still has some of their allotment left, but they've hiked their price up to $350 now. EDIT - Amazon.co.uk is still taking pre-orders as well, though at ~$330. Edited August 28, 2009 by Salt Peanuts

deepak Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 I believe the mono box set will be reprinted, just not numbered like the first run.
CarlSeibert Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 Bob Lefsetz, the music industry guy got his set (stereo, CD, it appears). His blog post is pretty interesting, coming from someone not associated with our audiophile fringe. http://lefsetz.com/wordpress/index.php/archives/2009/08/28/the-beatles-remasters/ Here's one of his closing grafs: In an era where sound quality is going in the wrong direction, where logarithms remove some of the sound to squeeze songs down into tiny files, releasing remastered CDs is akin to polishing up an IBM Selectric. Still, maybe these finally pristine releases can be a beacon. Maybe the younger generation will invest in better speakers, techies will invent new file formats, that allow people to hear music the way it was truly made. Personally, I think headphones are the gateway drug to addict young people to caring about sound, but that might just be me.
deepak Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 techies will invent new file formats, that allow people to hear music the way it was truly made FLAC has been around for a long time.
Sherwood Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 Bob Lefsetz is a great guy, but he talks out of his ass for a living. His "great speakers" are Audioengine A5s. Not bad, sure, but I'd bet dollars to donuts he couldn't tell a FLAC from a 320k on any song he wanted. That being said, I'm glad he enjoyed them. He's not known for pulling punches.
zippy2001 Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 I'd bet dollars to donuts he couldn't tell a FLAC from a 320k on any song he wanted. To tell you the truth, I'm sure I would have a hard time differentiating between 320k and FLAC.
Sherwood Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 To tell you the truth, I'm sure I would have a hard time differentiating between 320k and FLAC. As do I, on most songs. There's a handful I can do it reliably, however I don't bitch about how compression is ruining the music industry every day, unlike Mr. Lefsetz.

I don't believe compression is ruining the music industry, but it is interesting that vinyl has seen a resurgence in recent years. I believe there is a time and place for all music formats.

Hopstretch Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 I believe the mono box set will be reprinted, just not numbered like the first run. That would make sense. Why would they give up a parallel (and perpetual) revenue stream?
LFF Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 That would make sense. Why would they give up a parallel (and perpetual) revenue stream? Because they might need to get permission all over again. As history has shown - that can take many, many years. I do hope they make more though. EDIT: On another note - I was playing The Beatles Rockband today! Aside from the fun, the sound quality was very good!
CarlSeibert Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 As do I, on most songs. There's a handful I can do it reliably, however I don't bitch about how compression is ruining the music industry every day, unlike Mr. Lefsetz. The fact he doesn't know that FLAC and Apple Lossless and AIFF and... are all around and available is plenty to qualify him as a "non-audiophile". Why not being "one of those people" (us) might give an opinion more weight out in the land of the unwashed is a puzzling and lamentable thing. But it is what it is. I'm pretty sure it's the other kind of compression he's bitching about - compression of dynamics. And he's right. You don't have to be one of "us" to know that most of the popular music being sold (at inflated prices, no less) sounds like shit. Young people won't develop an appreciation for either music or good gear if most of the music they want to hear is unlistenable. It's criminal.
