blessingx Posted July 2, 2008 Report Posted July 2, 2008 Since this was mentioned recently in another thread, I thought I'd post this sale I just came across. Seems a good deal for those looking for storage. Thermaltake BlacX USB Docking Station - dealmac.com
LFF Posted July 2, 2008 Report Posted July 2, 2008 Just ordered one! Need one to store all my vinyl rips.
blessingx Posted August 11, 2008 Author Report Posted August 11, 2008 In case anyone is interested they're back on sale... Thermaltake BlacX USB Docking Station - dealmac.com
Dusty Chalk Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 Thanks, yes, I was waiting for one to go on sale again to buy one.
aardvark baguette Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 Just wanted to add that this is the non-esata model. Sill works fine, just not as fast. Transfering from BlacX to computer (or reverse) is fairly quick, but transferring from BlacX to another BlacX is not as fast, and thats where I notice it.
Dusty Chalk Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 So what's the eSata version, the ST0005U?
aardvark baguette Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 Newegg.com - Thermaltake ST0005U ABS Plastic 2.5" & 3.5" USB & eSATA HDD Docking Station - External Enclosures $45 This is the model I dont have
strid3r Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 aardvark, one of the Newegg reviews mention that the power cord could be longer...do you know how long the cord is by any chance?
aardvark baguette Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 Yeah, not that long; looks like maybe 4 feet or so?
lostonetr Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 I have the USB only version at home, I can check the length of that one when I get back fromz work. It is quite short though, in comparison to all my other external hdd cases.
Nenso Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 wow this is actually pretty neat. This is the first external "docking" hdd enclosure i've ever seen.
aardvark baguette Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 It doesnt. But air works fairly well. Lots of external cases dont have fans, and use the enclosure to cool the drive. I have a LaCie that does that, and gets very, very warm to the touch. But my WD drives in the BlacX are barely warm to the touch; almost room temperature. These are the drives I use: Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD6400AAKS 640GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - Internal Hard Drives
lostonetr Posted August 30, 2008 Report Posted August 30, 2008 ah. my bad really long work day. the power cord is a bit over 3.5 feet (maybe by an inch or two)
