Les_Garten Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 I tried a pair of Park Avenue's on today, but didn't really get a good fit. Left was too tight, right was close but heel a bit too loose. They definitely seemed well made though. Man, I have trouble buying non-sneakers that don't give me bad blisters. Here ya go: John Lobb Bootmaker
cetoole Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 :rofl:Custom shoes are definitely not in the books.
Les_Garten Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 :rofl:Custom shoes are definitely not in the books. Yeah, me too neither. The USED to run about $2500 a pair, a LONG time ago... The Prince of Wales shops there I believe.
grawk Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 Colin, try Fluevog down on prince st in manhattan.
deepak Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 I always found Rockports had the most comfortable soles for me
Les_Garten Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 I always found Rockports had the most comfortable soles for me Since we're on a shoe tear... I quit wearing Rockports a long while back because I felt their Quality went down. I started wearing Ecco. You should have a look there if you get a chance and Euro sizing and cut will work for you. They are what Rockport was 25 years ago, well, really better. You can find great sales on them, they are expensive off sale. They make really comfortable dress shoes that Rockport can only dream about. Their casual shoes are killer also. If there's a problem, they support their product superbly.
Salt Peanuts Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 I just wear sneakers and/or flip-flops until snow starts falling. Then I switch over to my hiking boots. It's a good thing I rarely have to wear fancier shoes.
Les_Garten Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 i've had bad luck with the liners of Eccos wearing out quickly, but i have bad luck with the liners on most shoes. otherwise, they have been well built and comfortable. He's got Diamonds on the Soles of his Feet! Ohhh, that's not how that song goes...
deepak Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 I think I get 3-4 years out of a pair of Rockports. That is fine with me since I usually walk 2-4 miles every day indoors so I don't expect them to last forever.

That is fine with me since I usually walk 2-4 miles every day indoors so I don't expect them to last forever. I still have a few pairs of Rockports. They wear well, I like the Prowalkers I have. I have so many shoes, they last forever because I wear a different pair all the time.
grawk Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 fluevogs are very comfortable (well, the angels and futurevogs are), and some of the styles look reasonably conservative
jvlgato Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 Agreed on Allen Edmonds. My main basic black dress shoe is made by them; it's 11 years old and looks almost new, after three new soles and several times per week being worn. Their outlet store is in Port Washington, Wisconsin, so sometimes we drive by it while traveling, and I always have to stop.
